After some andventures Kuronue had taken it upon himself to trade in his loot to buy things for people to return their kindness. He hadn't given anyone Christmas presents, nor had he spoken to Kurama since the mononoke fiasco and he did suppose that Yukimura might like flowers...

He appeared at the door to the greenhouse Kurama was currently within, wearing a grey yukata. His hair was down, and there was a new silver chain around his neck. He felt naked without something there, the weight of the pendant having gotten so familiar over the centuries. In one hand he held a bag that seemed to weigh a decent amount.

"Hi," he greeted tentatively, resting his free hand on the doorframe.

Without turning, Kurama flapped his hand at Kuronue, half in greeting and half to indicate he wanted silence. Kuronue would remember the gesture. Then he beckoned, his head bent over one of his worktables, looking intently at something. his body blocked the view of it, so that all Kuronue could see was a dull, opalescent glow.

Kuronue placed his bag by the door and wandered in as beckoned, curious. He stuck his head over Kurama's shoulder first, using Kurama's body as a sheild just in case, then stepped to the side tentatively to get a better look. He wanted to speak, but remained silent.

On the table, a little cluster of flowers sat, sprouting from a tiny mound of grass that looked like little carved pieces of jade. The flowers looked jewel-like, pink, violet, and red blossoms mimicking wild roses with petals that were completely transparent.

"I have no idea how this happened," he said to Kuronue in a low whisper. "They're made of sugar, but they're organic. I'm afraid to water them in case they dissolve, and they wilt if there's too much noise. And I can't figure out why they're glowing. They've been growing all over the greenhouses since yesterday." He grinned a little, still not looking at Kuronue. "It's really damn weird."

Elrond was quite unaware of the Valentine's Day tradition, but, was very touched by recieving a message from an odd singing house-elf. The house-elf's delivery was of course far from Elven standard, but, Elrond was sure that the meaning of the message had come from Glorfindel. And so, he was taking a stroll and attempting to figure out what to do for Glorfindel in honor of this holiday when he came upon the signs at the greenhouse. Flowers were of course perfect for his fellow Elf-Lord.

He opened the door, and looked around, impressed with the strange variety of plants. He introduced himself and greeted Kurama with exceptional politeness. "I am seeking a gift for my friend, and flowers would be ideal. Blossoms of a golden colour would suit him best- perhaps you have something?"

Kurama turned from arranging a pretty laquered vase filled with lilies and smiled a true salesman's smile.

"Dear sir," he said, his voice practically dripping honey, "If it was so required I could make any plant as golden as new sunrise. You must tell me of your friend, and we'll find the right aesthetic together."

Elrond gave Kurama a thankful smile- the Elf-Lord's smiles tended to be minimal, but, expressed a deep and honest sentiment. "I appreciate your willingness to help, sir. I am Elrond of Rivendell, and I am honored to make the acquaintance of such a skilled gardener." Looking around the greenhouse, he could see that Kurama took excellent care of his plants.

"My friend is a lifelong one, and a dear and trusted companion." He'd known Glorfindel all of the several thousand years of his life, but only recently realized just how close of a companion he considered him. "I would like to find him a gift that might evoke the aesthetic of our home, or at least some part of the world we are displaced from." He thought it unlikely that there would be anything that could evoke the Elven realms, but, there were many plants this world had in common with Middle-Earth nonetheless.

"Tell me about your home," he said, offering a chair - which was like a swing made out of flowering vines that fell from the ceiling - to the lord. "About the plants, foremost, but the place and history as well, if you please." After all, he couldn't be expected to paint a picture with just one color.

Zex loomed in the doorway. He'd already done his good deed by sending humans on dates, but now he needed flowers. He knew humans often wanted flowers during courship, though what they did with them was somewhat mysterious.

"Do you have anything appropriate for a "threesome" date with a man and a woman? Also, do you have anything that uses amaranth plants?" Yes, he'd heard it was a plant.

Kurama blinked, went through his mental catalogue of plants, and then turned to his workbench with a thoughtful look on his face, beckoning to the interesting student to come over.

"Amaranth is generally known as a genus of plants, he said, going to a chest of tiny drawers, each one labeled in a neat hand that no one who didn't understand kitsune-go - the language of foxes - could read. He flicked through several of the drawers, taking a seed out of each.

"For example, we have purple amaranth," as he spoke a seed bloomed in his hand to show the plant in question, "Matweed, amaranthus caudatus, which is interestingly testicular and relevant in this case.... it depends on who the people are involved to determine which flowers I use. Who are they?"

"Well, the amaranth is for Amaranth, who is a "cerial nymph" and a friend who I 'slept with'- as the humans put it." Zex said. "I'll let you decide what's most appropriate in that case.

And as for the people I'm dating, there's Kurunue, a male, and Cathy, a human female."

"Purple Amaranth, I think," Kurama said to himself, taking a few more of the seeds to start the arrangement. "I know Kuronue, but tell me about this Cathy woman. What's she like?"
