Zex loomed in the doorway. He'd already done his good deed by sending humans on dates, but now he needed flowers. He knew humans often wanted flowers during courship, though what they did with them was somewhat mysterious.

"Do you have anything appropriate for a "threesome" date with a man and a woman? Also, do you have anything that uses amaranth plants?" Yes, he'd heard it was a plant.

Kurama blinked, went through his mental catalogue of plants, and then turned to his workbench with a thoughtful look on his face, beckoning to the interesting student to come over.

"Amaranth is generally known as a genus of plants, he said, going to a chest of tiny drawers, each one labeled in a neat hand that no one who didn't understand kitsune-go - the language of foxes - could read. He flicked through several of the drawers, taking a seed out of each.

"For example, we have purple amaranth," as he spoke a seed bloomed in his hand to show the plant in question, "Matweed, amaranthus caudatus, which is interestingly testicular and relevant in this case.... it depends on who the people are involved to determine which flowers I use. Who are they?"

"Well, the amaranth is for Amaranth, who is a "cerial nymph" and a friend who I 'slept with'- as the humans put it." Zex said. "I'll let you decide what's most appropriate in that case.

And as for the people I'm dating, there's Kurunue, a male, and Cathy, a human female."

"Purple Amaranth, I think," Kurama said to himself, taking a few more of the seeds to start the arrangement. "I know Kuronue, but tell me about this Cathy woman. What's she like?"

"She..." Zex paused. "It's a blind date."

"Hhm..." he worked silently on the amaranth arrangement for a moment, and then set it aside. "Is the meeting to be conducted at night or during the day?"

"At night, I believe. Does this make a difference to humans?"

"No, but it does to the flowers." He chose from his seed stash a selection of night-blooming flowers with particular invigorating scents. He arranged the many flowers - Jasmine, moon lily vine, and a clutch of bellflowers that seemed to be filled with galaxies in miniature. He set the arrangement in a tall black vase, and nodded his approval. "What do you think?"

"It's very sculptural" Zex noted "almost like the stars. And it gives of chemical traces I can taste."

All in all, he seemed pleased.

"I rather like the star ones myself; someday I hope to plant them in my homeworld." Meaning, of course, Makai. The universal realm of demons was far easier to access than the dimension he'd left behind.

"The chemical traces, are there specific flavors you're interested in? I can fiddle with the biology, if you have the time."

"No, no that's fine. This is for humans, after all, not for me."

"So you aren't human? There seem to be many human-like beings around Hogwarts. What is your homeworld?" Zex's interest was piqued, at the thought of a new species to add to his petting zoo. to study.
