Pittfalls of Low-tech [Open RP]

Aoi was quick to discover that Hogwarts was very...archaic. Of course the first thing he'd done was look for technology, and he'd come across the Compy Room. The jack that he pulled from his neck didn't match the USB port on any of the computers, so he'd set off in search of materials to make some. He'd at least like to see if he could still dive ( Read more... )

"Now why would you kill a perfectly good computer?" Hell, if Ryuk couldn't troll on the compys, he might as well troll in real life.

Aoi was a little startled at the creature, and stared for a minute up (and up and up) at him, before looked back down to the computer. "We are incompatible. I am fixing that, then I will see if an internet connection is at all possible." Poor Aoi didn't know yet, but it was indeed impossible. It gave him something to do, at least, rather than sitting around and staring at walls.

"Heh, probably not," Ryuk said, leaning back. "This school has it's own version of the net, I think. Mainly for us students to screw around in. Besides, what do you mean compatible?"

"Mello said that too, but I want to try." He wasn't having much luck, at the moment, the compy had all the right parts, but was a model he hadn't seen before. he began to put it back together slowly. "My body is merely a shell, if I wanted I could dive into the computers and live there, independent of my body. But the plugs don't match. We are incompatible, for the moment at least."

Kurama had his own computer, so there really was no reason to go to the compy room on a regular basis, but there were printers, and printers were necessary. He entered with his laptop under one arm, and stopped as soon as he laid eyes on... the person with a computer for an arm.

Oh my gods, he thought, staring at the hand that wasn't really a hand. It's like every anime Yuusuke ever told me to watch come to life. He would love this.

he tried to think of some witty comment to the situation, but could only come up with "Er..."

Aoi had been examining one of the usb cables, wondering if he could join it up to a wire in his arm and make a connection that way, so when Kurama walked in, he was a little more distracted that usual.

As such, he merely blinked at Kurama's odd appearance. Kitsune, he remembered, from one of the old mythology tomes in his library. They existed here? Amazing.

He nodded in greeting. "I apologise if I am in your way," he said, making no move to remedy the situation if that was the case. He stared blatantly, his eyes fixed on Kurama's ears.

"You aren't," Kurama managed, matching Aoi stare for stare, his eyes still fixed on that hand. "What are the terms, android and cyborg? Or is there a difference?"

"I was born organic, but this is no longer so. As I don't retain any organic parts, it would be correct to call me an android," he said, his eyes lowering to what he could see of Kurama's tail before turning back to the massacred computer. His fingers broke apart into tiny, controllable wires, and he used them to piece together a jack that would actually be compatible.

The fact that he didn't meet Kurama's eyes wasn't out of rudeness, merely a symptom of Closed Shell Syndrome, which was similar to being autistic here, he'd been told. "I am Aoi," he said, glancing over at Kurama's feet for a second, then back to his construction.

"They don't make USB to SCSI connectors," I say from the doorway. "And those computers are too old to use any modern cards to give them USB ports. Even if they could, you'd find the data transfer rate insanely slow." Nothing like practicality in the morning.

Aoi was coming to realise this. He looked over to Mello and gave a slight glare. "You assume that I do not have ways of getting around this," he said, trying not to sound a little haughty.

"And you assume that it's worth the effort," I counter. "Those are not connected to an external network, only to each other."

Aoi sighed. Mello was frustrating, he was quickly coming to learn. "In the event that no internet connection can be achieved, intranet is fine, just as long as I can dive." Besides, if he got bored maybe he could amuse himself with making some viruses or something.

Victor was seated in a corner of the compy lab fiddling with one of the machines as well--due to his technopathy, he was merely touching its casing to use it. It was debatable whether he even needed the physical contact at this point, but he thought the extra measure couldn't hurt.

He'd been happy to ignore the new kid, up until the new kid started dismantling one of the computers. Victor had yet to run into any of the so-called hackers and computer nerds at Hogwarts, so the display was enough to catch his interest, especially when Aoi's hand revealed the fact he wasn't human.

"Another cyborg, huh?" Victor asked as he came over and stood watching Aoi work.

Aoi looked up, his eyes falling on the man's feet. "Another?" he asked quietly. He spent a moment wondering if he should have said hello first, but wouldn't that make the conversation awkward? Hm.
