"Soooooooooooooooo...what, you're another shinigami?" Ryuk should start paying attention.

Shinigami was naturally rendered as god of death courtesy of the translation charm, and it caused Nidhögg to tilt his head and narrow his eyes in an expression of mild amusement.

"A serpent from the land of the dead. You are a shinigami?" he guessed, carefully pronouncing the term and tasting this new language. A tongue perhaps younger than any he knew.

Ryuk shrugged. "Shame. You'd be a lot more interesting than the others. Yeah, I'm a shinigami. I'm Ryuk. So what do you do, then?"

"I devour the dead who are sent to Niflheim," Nidhögg replied, as though the rotting, mangled bits of corpses on the floor weren't evidence enough. "And there I have gnawed at the roots of the World Tree for longer than this world has existed." His gaze wandered from the shinigami, again taking in his strange surroundings. The false sky contained within the ceiling continued to fascinate him.

"OH MY GOSH DRAGON!"

Did you really expect any other reaction?

As he often did when presented with some new curiosity, Nidhögg reached out as though to prod the tiny talking flower with a claw. If she didn't avoid the contact, the prodding would undoubtedly lead to something worse; his was not a gentle interest.

"EEEEK! DRAGON CLAW!" Note that Sunflora thinks it's the attack Dragon Claw, and she's not just stating the obvious.

Whatever. She panics and goes to hide.

"You killed that thing?" Demyx asked incredulously. "Okay, I don't think I need a bribe after that. Even if you weren't a giant dragon."

He frowned. "Hang on... I've heard of you, somewhere... Kneeth-hewgger..." Demyx really ought to stop trying to pronounce Scandinavian words.

"I devoured the creature, as I was summoned here to do," Nidhögg affirmed, as would be plainly apparent if Demyx were able to see the rest of the dragon's body. The crushed Baby Sun had caused a noticeable bulge, lending him the appearance of a recently fed snake. He said nothing about the pronunciation, but merely eyed Demyx critically. "And what do you know of me?"

Franz flies in on his newly-acquired flying carpet, looking, as always, somewhere to the far left of "sane."

"Achtung! Hass anyvun seen Vinshton? He is vhite pigeon!"

The flying carpet was enough to attract Nidhögg's attention, more so than the strangely speaking man who was presumably addressing him. How was a thing that lacked wings capable of flight in such a manner?

"There are no birds here," he eventually answered. If there had been a pigeon fluttering around in the Sorting Room at some point, it had either already escaped out a window or been inadvertently crushed by the dragon.

Elric had guessed that Nidhögg might rampage around Hogwarts for a time, get bored, and then wander home, and would call on him one he had need for the doomed albino's services. He wasn't sure why Nidhögg had decided to subject himself to the Sorting process, as, surely he'd already rendered excellent services to Hogwarts, and was above suffering such an ordeal. But perhaps, it was somehow unavoidable due to the weird magic of this realm ( ... )

"The Hat is the ruling god of this realm of Hogwarts?" Nidhögg wondered, and didn't seem especially bothered by this information. Gods were not generally anything he felt concerned about or took much interest in, a sentiment that was presumably mutual, since none had ever directly interfered in his affairs-that he knew of.

"I was drawn to this place..." Meaning the Sorting Room, specifically, but he didn't add that it had been quite impossible to resist the pull of the room. Perhaps this Hat was a being to be reckoned with, if it already held such sway over him. "This chamber could hold none, if it were to be destroyed," he said, casting his eyes skyward once more, noting the ceiling appeared to be a false sky. More sorcery?

The albino nodded affirmatively, replying, "To all apparent circumstances, it is. But, I have no distinct proof that the Hat does not have other masters." It was easier for Elric to accept the Hat's ridiculous manifestation by likening it to Balo the Jester, who was not precisely a Lord of Chaos, but, served them- something of a demigod of Chaos, rather than a god ( ... )

If Nidhögg had had any inkling of Elric's misery, he might likely have enjoyed it; but he was not omniscient, and despite being capable of sharing his thoughts with those perceptive enough to hear them, he could not know Elric's mind. This was probably for the best ( ... )
