Kameo didn't feel well. Something just...wasn't right. This place confused her. Magic was afoot, but it didn't resemble the magic back at the Enchanted Kingdom. And for some reason or another, she had to take a quiz.
Octavian snorted quietly. "Sparklypoo is one of the four 'newer' Houses. Very few people are consigned to those. If you make yourself disagreeable to the creature who does the Sorting, then you may be sent there. I advise you to be as pleasant to the Sorting Hat as you can manage. In its own mind, it's a sort of supreme ruler; other people might call it a tyrant. That ankh necklace, or some other piece of jewelry, should please it amply."
So, if the 'Sorting Hat' didn't like her, she'd go to Sparklypoo or one of the other newer houses. Frankly, it didn't sound too bad, since Sage said there was fondue and the name suggested a royal setting. The elf put her necklace back on, so she wouldn't have to hold it constantly.
"Is there something I'm missing about the new houses? What's so bad about them?" Kameo asked. The man's implications were that the new houses were seriously bad, but why?
...Which explained the name. Then again, Hufflepuff didn't sound too respectable either. Kameo sighed lightly. "One of them--" She swept her arm to indicate the people around; her memory wasn't perfect under so much information. "Said that Hufflepuff was for me. Do you think so?"
"It may be. I have heard that those born into high families are often placed in Slytherin. However, Tenel Ka Djo is a Hufflepuff, and she's heir to an entire world. It was she who explained the houses to me," he remembered. "Slytherin, she said, was for those who keep their enemies closer than their friends. That doesn't strike me as true of you. Hufflepuff could be an acceptable fit."
Kameo didn't have many enemies that couldn't be taken care of by a good smackdown, so, her friends tended to be closer. "I see," the elf replied. "But I don't know yet. What do you think?" Being a princess, not a queen, serious decisions often deferred to Theena. Kameo didn't have too much experience there.
((That's okay. Usually we tend to treat Sorting threads as happening independently of one another -- i.e., one thread 'finishes' before the next begins, even if in realtime they're going on simultaneously for the players. Sometimes it means that a character gets the same thing explained to them more than once, but on the whole it makes things easier. :) ))
"I think you ought to make the best of whatever placement you're given, and don't ascribe too much importance to any of them," Octavian replied. What hesitance she might exhibit, Octavian would ascribe to her gender, not to her station.
"I'll remember that," Kameo replied. As he said, all it really meant was that she stayed in a different place. ...Well, maybe Sparklypoo and the other new houses were different, just because of how she'd be viewed from then on. And she could just punch anyone who says anything if she wound up in a joke house, anyway. "Thanks for all the information."

"I'll add my vote to Hufflepuff, pro forma. Try not to offend the Hat or any demons you may meet, and you should take to Hogwarts well." With these words of dubious encouragement, Octavian took his leave.
"Have you been traveling in Egypt?" he inquired politely of the new arrival.
