So, the talking hat (which was somehow more intimidating than a talking fridge) had placed Satou in Ravenclaw. The trouble was,he had no idea what that meant, and the bizarre little bug-eyed big-eared creatures he'd seen scuttling around unnerved him too much to try and ask ( Read more... )

I sit and watch this guy filling up his plate while eating a roast beef sandwich. "You must be new here," I say blandly. Let's see what kind of idiot this is.

Not having seen Mello, Satou spun to face him, thankfully managing not to drop his plate. Hadn't the blond guy been at his sorting briefly? And pretty much sneered and walked away?

So, basically, laughing at him.

"Ha, yes, new here, well, maybe I am. So, what, that doesn't mean anything, does it? Everyone starts somewhere!"

Oh, it's that idiot.

"The food neither runs away nor does it run out," I say. I pick up my cup of tea and look at him, deliberately glaring to unnerve him. Let's see how amusing he can be, then.

Satou was easily unnerved, and he stepped back, edging away from Mello's glare.

"I can have it. I was told I could have it."

Of courrse, it's not like he was above stealing food.

Unity wasn't here for the buffet, of course, although she thought she would stay for a while and accustom herself to the smells, and maybe eat some bread with a small amount of butter. She just felt like doing something other than knitting.

She'd been knitting a lot, since Amaranth had introduced her to it. It was far more satisfying than painting, which she'd never been able to do quite the same way that humans could. Painting required instinct. Knitting could be achieved by following a pattern. She was very proud of everything she'd created so far.

Which is why she was now wearing a lime green scarf, navy blue hat and gloves, yellow leg-warmers and a bright red cardigan over a silver sequinned cocktail dress. There were a lot more scarves and several hats back in her room, but she couldn't put them all on at once. It would have looked silly.

She crouched down to peer at the young man under the table. "What are you eating?"

The color combination seared Satou's retinas, but he wasn't about to comment. For all he knew, it was some sort of fashion.

"Fish," he said warily.

Unity nodded. "I haven't tried fish. The scent is quite distinctive." She tilted her head. Something about this person was - familiar. "Why are you sitting down there? Surely the chairs are more comfortable."

"Safer," he got out. Mello had rattled him quite a bit.

Since she couldn't cook with A all the time, the buffet at the great hall was enough to keep her going, and a good excuse to spy on new people.

Of course, sometimes the spying left her with a little more information than she liked. For example, the weirdo underneath the buffet table. A newbie, and obviously not having a very comfortable time with it, among other things. She knelt, a good distance from the guy, and peered at him over the tops of her knees.

Not having expected to see anyone at eye level, Satou gave her a rather surprised look. She was about Misaki's age, apparently, and cute in a ragamuffin sort of way. He could feel himself starting to flush under the pressure of her gaze.

River continued to stare, tilting her head to the side after a moment. She could read this guy like a book. A big one, with small words in large font and pictures in case you don't get the hint. He was a buggy one, all right.

"Ravenclaw, huh," she mused after a while. "Interesting choice."

"What?" He didn't think he'd seen her at his sorting. How had she known? Were people talking about him? Whispering, gossiping, giggling... they were, weren't they? Laughing behind his back!

"Why not?"

The Chairman was eating something a bit more refined than fish and chips, reading a book, when he looked up to see Satou grabbing at the fish.

"You don't need to hoard the food, young man, the house elves will bring more if needed. Or they can bring whatever you wish to eat," he added, sipping at his wine.

"This is fine," he mumbled, trying not to gawk at the man's flashy clothes.

"I'm just saying. I wouldn't want you to waste food that you aren't particularly enthusiastic for just for the sake of hoarding it."

"I'm just hungry," he muttered. Did people not want him to eat?

It had been a week since Wishbone left Ravenclaw, spending his time between his room and A's recovering from his injuries.

Wishbone was feeling loads better, though it hurt to lay on that side, so he left Ravenclaw to explore.

He smelled lots of yummy food in the Great Hall, but before he could try to sneak away some, a house elf stopped him with a plate of the food he could eat all ready for him.

Woocha! Thank you! And Wishbone dug into his plate with gusto.

Wishbone looked up as seeing unfamiliar feet in his vision. He looked up.

Hi!

It did!

Maybe it was a flashback. Well, no reason to be rude to a hallucination,

"Er, hello."
