Application for Karasu from Yuu Yuu Hakusho

Feb 01, 2009 08:22

A man dressed in a long black coat and pants stood in front of the desk. A gray mask, much like a surgical mask, covered half of his face so only his violet eyes were visible. He swayed on his feet and pressed his palm against his forehead with a grunt. His eyes flicked back and forth erratically as he filed through recent and painful memories. A ( Read more... )

"Why could not the god resurrect his beloved?"

Karasu turned to face a lovely young woman. "He tried," the demon explained. "But the God couldn't revive him since the weapon had been his own," he grinned at her from beneath his mask. "He killed the object of his affections and let it haunt him for all eternity. Isn't that...beautiful?"

(( *collapses* maybe it's just the cold medication talking, but that last line made me imagine Karasu as Saddy Dumpington. "I made some soup out of the rest of your family just last night! Isn't that great?" ))

"I take it you believe that is beautiful. Myself, I think it an ugly and sad story; but one that is likely meant as an allegory, and not to be taken literally. Perhaps it is an allegory of the soul's distance from the Increate ..." I shrugged. "I would like to know why you find it beautiful. Are you an algophilist?"

"Death," he spoke the word with care that a mother would give her child, "is beautiful. Everything someone strives for in life, all their work, all their pain is ended by that single moment." He paused for dramatic effect, though he probably didn't realize he was doing it. "You must agree...there is nothing in life that matters more than death. It's the only eternity," he brushed his fingers against his mask.

"Thanatophilia," he offered. He loved pain as well, but one couldn't forget his fascination with death (though many have tried to).

((Now I want to see him serving somebody people soup.))

Hmm. A marginally less dull applicant. Sadako driftly damply into the room, gradually allowing herself to become visible, and affected a condescending, sticky-sweet smile.

"Well, aren't you darling."

Karasu raised an eyebrow. This one was almost as pale as he was and certainly as dead. "What makes you say that?" There weren't many people who would call him darling, even in jest.

"Flowers? Really? It's touchingly romantic. Is that a Valentine's Day story? Do you have one about candy? Or perhaps diamonds?"

Karasu gazed at her steadily. It seemed she was mocking him. "I don't enjoy the story for its romance," he explained calmly. "But I appreciate it for its beauty."

"Alas," Lezard sighed, "woman cannot be won by force alone. So I have learned, to my regret. When one destroys a soul, one either obliterates what one desired, or creates an entirely new entity, different from the one that was first desired."

At first Karasu didn't listen to the man but that last statement rung true with him. "Yes...sometimes things don't turn out as you planned them." He didn't bother to correct the 'woman' part. "But there is a difference between you and me. It's the destruction itself that I desire." Under his mask, Karasu licked his lips.

Lezard laughed his more-than-slightly-unhinged laugh. "I shan't deny that destruction can be pleasurable."

"I don't see how anyone could," Karasu purred. "There is nothing more...thrilling than dissecting perfection. The pleasure of molding death in your hands..." Karasu almost moaned. There was a disturbing glint in his eyes. "What more could you ask for?"

"So you are come?" Kusuriyuri said, his voice harsh. He had noticed the new youkai. It was too easy to notice them. The name was enough to confirm his identity.

Karasu turned to look at Kusuriyuri, his eyes trailing slowly up his body. He rested his gaze on the man's face; he was beautiful. "Did someone tell you about me?" Three guesses to who that 'someone' was and the first two don't count.

"Someone, yes. Someone you are not to involve yourself with." Kusuriyuri frowned. "Why are you come?"

"Mmm," Karasu licked his lips. "How do you...know him?" he asked. Karasu wasn't a fool; he could sense Kurama's energy on Kusuriyuri. He just wanted to hear the man say it so he could justify his desire to violate him.

"You seem quite sure of yourself, don't you?" Yukimura asked from the doorway. He was quite sure this one wasn't human.

A shiver ran up Karasu's spine. That voice...but he knew it wasn't him. Could there be another person with a voice that lovely?

The demon turned around to see a young man in the doorway. A beautiful young man. Karasu kept his fingers from trembling in excitement, but he couldn't hold back his disturbing grin. Thankfully, he had a mask to cover that.

"And why shouldn't I be?" Karasu asked, managing to keep his composure.

Yukimura hadn't missed the lechery in the gaze, but he was too adept a politician to show his unease. "It does seem rather pretentious," he said. "Isn't it usually better for others or your own actions to speak for you?"

"I wouldn't have spoken," Karasu responded, "If I wasn't asked questions. It asked me to prove I wasn't useless and I didn't feel that destruction three minutes after my arrival would be a good show of tact," he explained nonchalantly. The demon could have done much worse than proclaim that he isn't weak.
