Well, making people physically ill was not something that had ever happened to Amaranth yet. With an effort Lezard managed a semblance of his usual confident composure.

"Actually," he said, "it really is a wand." And he took it out to show her. "Behold, the Wand of Apocalypse."

It was an impressive artifact. It was also a real and literal magic wand. Not, you know, a part of the male anatomy.

For a moment, Amaranth forgot to be sultry in her enthusiasm. "What does the wand do?" she asked. "Most wands I've ever seen perform specific functions, after which they need to be recharged. Is yours like that?" Then she shook herself a little and batted her lashes and lowered her voice to a confidential whisper. "May I... touch it?" she asked.

Walter Sullivan tends to ignore the sorting room for the reason that he doesn't like people, therefore has no desire to meet anyone. And this application shows a good reason why he should have just stayed away. Amaranth liked this one, and returned his friendly smile. "I'm a cereal nymph, actually. I keep a field of... well... amaranth, actually... fertile through the use of my sexual energy. Which isn't hard at college, but here... wherever here is... might be an interesting challenge." She was still smiling cheerfully at the last, since she was always up for a challenge.

Amaranth nodded. "It's so sweet of you to think of me being cold," she told him. "But I don't feel cold the way most people do, so I shouldn't have any problems in winter."
