Greenhouses were lovely things, in River's humble opinion, and a greenhouse just bfore dawn was the lovliest of all. Granted, since A had offered that she could go there whenever she liked, River had since decided to spend the entire night in the place, and therefore had seen it from midnight onwards

A often attended the maintenance of the greenhouse and garden early in the morning; he never slept much. He had Bernoulli's company today, the little flying squirrel perched on top of his head.

He was singing an early Beatles song loudly and badly as he entered the greenhouse.

"It is good that they balance each other out."

the sun was beginning to filter more strongly through the glass walls.
"Should we get to work, the flowers need attention, too, I think."

"Yes, yes," A agreed, pointing to a large bucket. "That is compost. it is food for the plants."

Taking up a hand shovel, she headed towards the bucket, intent on getting started with work.

"Who's hungriest today?"

A starts on the mikan tree; he has a special fondness for it. "I usually tend to the trees first."

River let A tend the mikan, and went to the lime. For some reason, that one just seemed to speak to her more loudly than the rest. It's grumpy but not unkind nature reminded her of Mal, and it was good.

"You said you would get new plants?"

"I was thinking that in the mangosteen grove I would put a mamey tree, and a lychee, and coffee. And here in the greenhouse, I want to choose more vegetables, and, and I know I need poppies, but I wanted to ask you what color."

"Poppies to make them sleep?" She joked, not knowing if A would get the reference. either way, no matter.
"I like red poppies. Outside the emerald city."

A didn't get the reference, and looked at her curiously.

"They are for medicine, for Kusuriyuri. But they are also lovely."

"They will be good to watch grow. We need to watch movies together," she added, with a little grin. Not many movies had survived five hundred years, but there were still classics she knew, and The Wizard of Oz was one of them.

"I, I watched cartoons with Ryuzaki and Matt once," A told her. "On, on Ryuzaki's laptop."

"I haven't seen cartoons since I was very young," she admitted. And now, when she watched them, they told her to do things she would rather not do. It was disheartening, and a little frown tugged her lips.

"They were strange to watch." A frowned in return, although not for the same reasons. "Everything was very flat, and nothing moved the way it should."

"I suppose it's the surreality that's the appeal," River mused, giving the lime tree a final approving pat before moving to the lemon. "I don't like them very much."

"I prefer music." Finishing with the mikan, A began on the clementine. "I can sing along."

"I like dancing to music..." she would make no comment on A's singing. It was cute, in a kind of weird way.
