Greenhouses were lovely things, in River's humble opinion, and a greenhouse just bfore dawn was the lovliest of all. Granted, since A had offered that she could go there whenever she liked, River had since decided to spend the entire night in the place, and therefore had seen it from midnight onwards

A often attended the maintenance of the greenhouse and garden early in the morning; he never slept much. He had Bernoulli's company today, the little flying squirrel perched on top of his head.

He was singing an early Beatles song loudly and badly as he entered the greenhouse.

"They would not like you, if they did not think you were worth liking." He tries to fight off a blush at just how thoroughly they approved. L's contraceptive talk had been especially humiliating.

"I'd prefer to be liked," she smiled. She could feel A's embarrassment under her hands, and mirrored it slightly. It was something new, being a girlfriend, and though she knew academically what that entailed, well... what is easy to understand in theory is harder to experience in practice. At least it was A she had, and not someone else. Though, who else was still up to question; it wasn't like she knew anyone else that she'd care about the way she cared for A.

"They asked, asked if the cats liked you, and the plants."

"That's a good judgment of character, I think," she said. "If I had cats, I am sure they would like you. For now, I have Rui Wen, who thinks you are good company, and who thinks Bernoulli is funny."

"Bernoulli is funny," A agreed. "Rui Wen has a good sense of humor. Would you like cats?"

Oh, it would be wonderful to give River kittens. Two, to grow up together like Einstein and Schrodinger.

She blinked, not quite catching his meaning. "I do like cats..."

"But would, would you want them near you all the time?"

It would be bad for kittens to be an unwelcome surprise.

"I would like that," musing. Oh, cats were lovely, and if she kept Rui Wen near her or in a safe place, there would be no fighting and just goodness.

It's firmly settled in A's mind then. He will find someone to go with him to the pet shop, and they will get two kittens for River.

"For now, Schrodinger and Einstein will cat for you."

"I like the sound of that. I haven't seen them lately, though. Would they mind catting for me if I have not been around to cat for?"

"They will gladly cat for you whenever they see you," A promised her. "Schrodinger is good at playful-catting, and Einstein is best at sleeping in laps."

"I like that. May they cat for me today, after we have finished tending the greenhouse?"

"Of course!" A smiled. "I will show you a spell Schrodinger likes, for playing."

"I haven't learned any spells yet..." and, wasn't there something she needed first? A wand? "But I would love to learn."

"It is a simple spell, and it entertains her. Einstein would usually rather rest, though."
