Open, but would like to see some Great Gatsby characters? :)

Aug 17, 2008 22:53

Daisy had been wandering the castle since her tour with Professor Snape last week. It hadn't dawned on her that she had not seen dear Gatsby or Nick in almost two weeks and suddenly wondered where they were. It was a rather large school and it was easy to not see someone often. But even Gatsby would leave her to her own devices? It was very unlike ( Read more... )

Konata was out sulking because the Olympics were still preempting her anime (and how she managed to find a TV that played her local TV channels is beyond me, but it happened).

So into her sulking she was that she didn't really pay attention to where she was going, and therefore nearly tripped over Daisy.

"Oh, sorry."

Daisy peeked her eyes blearily open and smiles. "Oh, it's okay, dear. I should be thanking you. I have to stay awake and study, but this lovely day has gotten me into a daydream, I suppose."

She sits up fully and extends a hand. "How terribly rude of me, I'm Daisy. Daisy Buchanan."

Konata did remember to take Daisy's hand instead of bowing. "Konata Izumi. I wouldn't even be outside, but my shows are preempted."

"Your shows? Like motion pictures? They have such things here? But I thought things like that were for night or rainy days." She smiles and releases her hand from Konata's. "Oh, and pleasure to meet you."

(( Gatsby-mun is on holiday this week, but here's Nick for you <3 ))Nick Carraway had been rather emo lately. Talking with his friend Claire had helped a little, but ultimately, Nick didn't derive much comfort from other people, even the most well-intentioned ( ... )

Daisy yawned daintily and flutters her eyelids. "Why, hello dear Nick," she mumbles and grins lazily. "This dreadful sun has led me away from my studies. How have you been, cousin?"

She doesn't stir from her position on the ground and keeps her eyes half-peeped open, squinted in the afternoon falling sun.

"I'm fine," he lied. It didn't much matter how he felt, and he was used to downplaying it. It ought to be hard to tell how he felt anyway -- he was a man, stoic, a soldier of the Great War; people far less self-absorbed than his cousin would have had a hard time telling. "What's this you say about studies?" The idea of Daisy studying ...

"Lovely then!" She grins into the sun and tilts her head towards Nick. "My studies? Well, they're like all other studies I suppose. They're tedious and longwinded but, all for the greater good. This is my second chance, dear Nick. I shan't waste it on something other than the task at hand!"

She sits up fully, resting on the palms of her hands held flat to the ground behind her. "What's your favorite subject here? I find Charms to be marvelous."

Quite without benefit of additional landscaping, the grounds had been beautified. To wit, a lovely woman was lying on the lawn. This much improved the view from Wednesday's office window.

Ever the opportunist, he decided now would be a fine time to go outdoors. He was a professor, and ought to introduce himself to new students. Especially the toothsome female variety of new student.

"It's too fine a day to waste in the library," he said to the young woman, when he'd reached her blanket on the lawn. "I admire your enterprising spirit. To study out of doors on a day like this is a clever compromise."

Flattery, thy name is Wednesday.

Daisy blinked her eyes open, still flat on her back, and smiles gracefully. "Studying seems to be the last thing I am accomplishing today, it seems." She sits up fully, pulling her legs to the side to be more lady-like, and balances off her left hand planted firmly to the blanket. "I came with good intention, but it seems that the sun has won the battle between sleep and studying."

Daisy's eyes glanced over the man once fully, before settling back on his face. "I would ask if you'd care to join me, but something tells me I am the one of the eldest students here, so you must be some sort of Professor. Studying would hardly be worth your while." She smiles, exposing a few ends of white teeth from behind her rose colored lips.

Not so clever by half, then, if her opening gambit was essentially to point out his advanced age. Wednesday snorted. "Study's worth anyone's while. No one wants history to pass him by, even one so superannuated as I gather you take me to be."

In point of fact he probably appeared to be somewhere in his mid-fifties, still strong and hale; he only looked truly aged when it served his purpose (i.e., when it would be useful in some con or other). No god looked his or her age. How could they? Hundreds of years, thousands of years -- they'd all look like the Sibyl at Cumae, and share her deathwish too.

A look of shock crossed Daisy's face as she shakes her head quickly. "Oh! No, no, no! I simply meant that I'm one of the eldest students I've met, though to be fair, I haven't met many people. I didn't mean to insinuate that you were old, sir. I merely meant that you were similar to my age and less adolescent. I assumed you to be of a higher ranking than myself because of that fact. But I suppose my conclusions don't always hold to be true, and in this case, may offend some. I apologize if that is the case."

She bows her head down and turns a fair shade of pink. 'How stupid of you, Daisy', she thought to herself, 'Offend someone without as much as knowing their name? Where are your manners?'
