Annja Creed; Rogue Angel books

Oct 29, 2007 17:47

*Annja stares around the room in surprise, still holding her flashlight up in one hand and an open book in the other. Ok, this was not what she was supposed to find on this dig. One minute she'd been picking through a ruined castle, indeed, a -condemned- ruined castle in Scotland and the next she was... here. Now, admittedly, this certainly ( Read more... )

Cyclona scowls. "What's wrong with killing people? Sometimes you just have to."

*Annja cocked her head slightly* Unfortunately, that's true. But like I said, I try to avoid it when possible.

"But it's fun." She giggles, looking almost child-like.

Fun? *She shakes her head* I will never understand that mentality... how can taking a life be fun?

Pullo looks over the new applicant. He still insists on wearing his customary tunic, leggings, and caligae at Hogwarts, and thus looks entirely out of place in a medieval castle environment. However, his bearing indicates that he's made himself right at home. "What's a tv show?"

*Annja studies Pullo for a long moment, clearly off-put by the sudden appearance of a man dressed as a Roman. Pre-Empire or very Early Empire if she wasn't mistaken, though it wasn't her area of expertise. After a bit she answers*

Um... a show you watch on the tv? Usually made for entertainment but occasionally very occasionally for education...

"What's a tv? Is it like a stage, then?" Pullo was familiar with public plays, having once been a character in one himself after his near-execution. "Damned funny name for a stage, that."

*She thought about that for a moment* Yes, I suppose it's a type of stage. One that allows people in different locations to watch the same thing at the same time.

*She studied him again* How can someone living in today's times not know what a tv is?

"You'd name a bar d'Arc Road? As in Jeanne d'Arc, or something else?" Camilla was idly curious, curious enough to ask. It seemed as good a place to start in a Sorting as any.

*Annja smiled slightly and nodded* Exactly as in Jeanne d'Arc.

"Why? I didn't think she had any special significance to archaeologists. Or martial artists. Or television writers," Camilla pointed out.

*Annja considers her answer carefully, not wanting to give too much away, especially in this strange place. Slowly she replies* Well, my area of focus is the middle ages of which Jeanne was a key participant. And I was raised by nuns. *She smiles and shrugs* It adds up to interest.

*After a moment she adds* And I'm not a television writer, I'm an archaeologist anchor.

Jaime has to smile a bit at the answer to question #2. "Yeah, I didn't think annoying was an executable offense either. Wouldn't have put up with my little sister so long otherwise." He raised an eyebrow at the Hufflepuff answer. "Working on a TV show sounds kinda cool, but I'm guessing... not?"

*Annja chuckles* If annoying was executable, we'd all probably be dead by now.

*Her expression darkens briefly at the mention of the tv show and she sighs with a shrug* You know... I keep getting told that, and I have to admit, the ability to go to places I want to go is nice but honestly? It's really fairly un-cool much of the time. *She grins wryly to herself. Not that that was really the whole truth, and she was honest enough with herself to admit that a lot of her irritation came from her so-called "co-anchor" and not from the tv show itself... despite their tendency to want to edit her research*

He smirks. "Yeah, you're probably right. See? Told you so. Two of my friends wouldn't have made it outta middle school."

"Places? Like where? Hey, short of being dropped in here and a road trip to Kansas, I've spent most of my life around El Paso." Not counting the two trips to outer space, of course. But those weren't exactly planned.

*She looks vaguely confused* Told who so? *Annja glances around briefly, looking to see who else the kid could be talking to*

*She smiles as she answers his question* Well... I've been all over most of Europe and America, Japan, China, South America... El Paso, huh? Been through there, mostly I end up outside of cities though.

It's been awhile since Haruka had been...well, anywhere other people were at Hogwarts, really. She'd been busy off moping that there was still no sign either of Michiru or of a way back to her Tokyo, until she'd decided to do something more productive. Like visit the Sorting Room and camp out there in the hope that Michiru would arrive.

She wandered in and glanced over the application for the newest applicant. Standard 21st century type...although one thing did catch her eye.

"You're a swordswoman? Unusual hobby for an archaeologist, isn't it?"

*Annja smiled in a friendly fashion, though her words were carefully selected* Not really, I mean what better way to study your history than to experience it? But I suppose most archaeologists aren't necessary the physical type.

racer_tenoh October 31 2007, 04:32:25 UTC
Haruka grinned, sticking her hands in her pockets. What better way? Well, there was always, y'know, remembering what happened to you a thousand years ago. Then again, that wasn't normally what you told people when they first showed up in the Sorting Room, because most humans didn't get that whole being magically reincarnated into the future thing.

"The sword-fighting most people do nowadays isn't anything like what it was in the past, though," she pointed out instead. "It's all slow-speed" boring "blunted weapons" boring "and lots of safety gear." Have we mentioned boring yet? And I dunno, I figure being an archaeologist has to involve some physical activity, what with going on digs."

*She nods, with a grin. It was definitely, sadly, true... so many people she knew that even bothered learning to use a sword had no true grasp of how it had been used in practice. But that was the way of progress, unfortunately*

True, mostly. Though I learned as part of martial arts rather than the stage fighting you learn elsewhere. *She almost wished she could say more, but pointing out that one actually uses a Renaissance broadsword in the 21st century was likely to incur some questions that would be a tad difficult to answer*

And yeah, it does, but not all archaeologists go on digs. Or, at least some not as often as others. And you'd be amazed at how out of shape you can be in and still survive those.
