Ok, the picture had been adorably awesome. And had made me laugh probably more than I should have. So points to Jack even before the date had officially begun - which boded quite well for the evening.
Dressed up - which I hadn't yet had an occasion to do since coming to Hogwarts, other than on a job, so I was feeling rather good about myself right off the bat - and wearing some new black boots that made my legs look fantastic, if I did say so myself, I headed on down to Hogsmeade. I wasn't quite sure where the restaurant was that Jack had mentioned, but I figured I could find it easy enough.
If by 'easy enough' I meant 'asking three people for directions and getting lost twice'. But I made it and entered the restaurant only a little after seven. Standing at the door, I turned around slowly, searching through the crowd for Jack.
"If you can figure it out, I'd love to know," I admitted. "Tuition to my community college didn't cover the supplies for wand making, but I bet I could figure it out." Without too many explosions. Hopefully. "You said it's supposed to have unicorn hair? What kind of wood is it?"
The waiter chose that moment to come over, pen poised over pad expectantly. "I'll have a chicken carbonara," I said, closing the menu and handing it to the guy. "And I'll let my date pick the wine." Flashing Jack a grin, I leaned forward and snagged my own piece of bread. Mmm...bread.
"I'll have the same." He picked out a good vintage Italian red, and let the waiter scurry off. "The guy I bought it from said it was oak and unicorn hair. There's something in the middle of it, sort of like pencil lead except it's a fiber of some kind. And the wood casing just seems like regular wood. I'm honestly drawing a blank."
