Ok, the picture had been adorably awesome. And had made me laugh probably more than I should have. So points to Jack even before the date had officially begun - which boded quite well for the evening.
Dressed up - which I hadn't yet had an occasion to do since coming to Hogwarts, other than on a job, so I was feeling rather good about myself right off the bat - and wearing some new black boots that made my legs look fantastic, if I did say so myself, I headed on down to Hogsmeade. I wasn't quite sure where the restaurant was that Jack had mentioned, but I figured I could find it easy enough.
If by 'easy enough' I meant 'asking three people for directions and getting lost twice'. But I made it and entered the restaurant only a little after seven. Standing at the door, I turned around slowly, searching through the crowd for Jack.
Hodgins had actually shown up early and reserved a table. He had even dressed up, in slacks and a tie, as promised. The effect was somewhat marred by slightly singed hair on the right side of his head and the bugs print on the tie.
He waved Rachel over and pulled out her chair. "You look fantastic!"
Grinning at him, the corners of my eyes crinkling as I took in the print on his tie, I sat down. "Thanks. You don't look too bad, yourself." I leaned over and sniffed playfully. "And your smell doesn't make me gag." Winking at Jack, I sat back and crossed my legs. "Not a bad start, I must say."
He smirked a bit at that. "I think that 'your smell doesn't make me gag' might be the most underrated compliment ever. Do you start all your dates like that, or am I just special?"

Will do.

PS: So you don't feel cheated, here's a reenactment. I learned the "making drawings move" bit from a book the other day.
