Ravenclaw Prefect Hours

Jan 04, 2007 23:13

Like many of her other pasttimes, Abby had focused herself on learning magic, and she was getting fairly good at it. The most useful skill she'd developed so far, at least in her own mind, was the ability to call forth Caf-Pow from her wand. She'd seen Sirius and Lily perform similar tricks, with alcohol, but Abby always preferred caffeine to booze ( Read more... )

He poked his head into the Ravenclaw common room and then around the dorm. Wherever she was, he found her eventually and quirked an eyebrow when he saw her there. "Are you Abby?"

She looked up from the book she was reading, an everpresent grin on her face.

"I am indeed Abby, and I don't think we've met. What can I help you with?"

"My name is Rube." He came over to offer her a hand to shake. "I'm a Ravenclaw myself. I saw something on the sign about forensics? It's always been a curiousity of mine."

She shook his hand, pigtails bouncing. "Well, it's nice to meet you Rube." If Abby had only known what Rube did for a living, she'd have been the one interrogating him, asking if he'd met Kate, what it was like, etc. But she didn't, so she couldn't.

"What would you like to know?"

Stephen saw the notices posted and decided to drop by. "I cannot claim to have problems a prefect can address, but I am indeed a Ravenclaw, and I should like to hear more about forensics," he said with a grin. "How do you do, Miss Sciuto?"

She grinned. "Dr. Maturin! I haven't seen you in ages. Sit down." She gestured to a nearby empty chair. "How are you doing?"

((OOC: Because I'm mean/Abby's been out of the loop, I want her to ask about Sarah. Is that ok?)

(( Sure, if you want -- he'll wince and not say very much of any interest or use, though! ))

"Very well, I thank you," he smiled, and indeed he looked to be quite well: happy and better-groomed than he might have appeared in some time. "And yourself? I own I had half feared you had fallen prey to the popcorn plague."

"Popcorn plague? Not me.." She really didn't know much about popcorning, and none of her friends had fallen to the plague that she knew of, so she remained blissfully ignorant. In all her exploring of Hogwarts, she had never stumbled on the Popcorn Room either, how odd.

She did notice that Dr. Maturin did indeed seem to be in high spirits, more so than she'd seen him before. "You seem in an awfully good mood, Doc. How's Sarah?"

Sort of inevitable line of work....

Abby blinked, then the pieces fell into place. Inevitable...death was inevitable. Abby had already met Death, who was actually pretty cool. What if she wasn't the only one. She looked at Rube as if seeing him for the first time since he walked into the room.

"You're dead, or you were dead. You help people die, don't you?"

"Oh, no." He shook his head. That was the thing people didn't understand -- they thought being death was about killing, or taking things away, or ending things. It was just the opposite -- it was about easing, and beginnings, and beauty.

"They make themselves dead just fine, without any help. I just help with the after bit."

"How do you know who's supposed to die, or when, or how if you don't cause it? I-I mean...there are so many people, and relatively few of them die on an given day."

"They tell me. The bosses, that is. I get a list, and I write out each name and time of death on a post-it, and I give it to the reaper it belongs to."
