((BTW, anyone wanting to has my full permission to hit Brice. He deserves it.))

Brice had caught on to May's advice and found it a very smart thing to do indeed. Though he wasn't very smart about it. He turned and grinned at Venom.

"Over here, you big, hulking Hell-monster!" he called out gleefully.

Probably unnecessary, but he wanted to make sure Venom followed and left Dom alone. He felt Mel's vibes like a burning disturbance, but not as bad as they could have been. He wondered briefly why that was. And then he quickly had other stuff to think about.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

With every step, Venom shook the ground. He was pissed to begin with, but with Mayday on the scene, he was out of whatever mind he had left. As he reared up and let out an ear-splitting roar, his skin crawled as if it were made of thousands of black worms, tendrils cracking at the air.

Brice was in the grass ahead, but even closer to him was Mel.

Deep within, Eddie's consciousness fought back for control, causing Venom to pause momentarily, snakelike tongue whipping about. But after being knocked out, and Venom taking over, his desperate pleas were pointless.

Venom stomped to the nearest tree, and uprooted it, pulling it out like some massive weed. Brandishing it like a baseball bat, he swung with tremendous force, and let it go, sending it spinning towards Mel...

Protect Mel. Keep Mel safe. The voice was calm. Composed. Still, it wasn't a suggestion, it was an order.

Before Brice had even realised he was doing it, he had run up to Mel, jumped and pushed her aside, away from the tree. (Jesus. A fucking tree.) A branch hit him hard on the shoulder, causing him to wince and hiss out a curse under his breath. Mel's hair was in his face and tickled his nose, and a confused memory bobbed up to the surface and was gone again. Smell is apparently the one sense that triggers the most memories, and the scent of Mel's hair made a tiny light of recognition flash on in Brice's brain, and in his eyes. And then it winked out again, almost as if it hadn't been there at all.

"Christ," he muttered and got up quickly, though a little clumsily as his shoulder hurt. Why can't angel girl ever haul herself out of trouble? Hm, that was a strange thought... "Missed, pea-brain," he growled at Venom ( ... )

'What the--?' is all Mel has time to think as Brice slams into her, knocking her to the ground. Her hair is in his face, and she can feel the jolt as the branch clips his shoulder.

That could have been me, she thinks, and suddenly all breath goes out of her. What did Brice just do, and why?

No time to ponder that-- the twit is jeering at Venom.

'Brice, I appreciate what you just did, but GET THE HELL AWAY FROM HIM!' she cries, kneeling and sending out a stream of golden light at Venom, trying to pay him back by weakening him.

The last time May heard anything like Venom's agonized screams was when - oh no. Please, no.

She rushes to Eddie's side, completely ignoring his nakedness in her panic, terrified that someone else has died on her watch, and frantically checks for a pulse.

There it is. May sags in relief. "Oh, thank God. He's alive." Then reality kicks in.

Yep, Eddie's alive all right. And stark naked. "Oh. Um." Her face is almost as red as her sweater as she asks, "Anyone got a coat?"

Brice grunted from pain and he paled, feeling bones protest in his body as Venom squeezed the air from his lungs. Not good. So very not good. Venom's teeth were suddenly way too close to his face, and Brice struggled as best he could. It was a good effort, but ultimately it was useless. Venom was too strong. ShitThen the webbing hit and Brice was dropped like a ragdoll. He lay on the ground and tried to clear his vision by blinking repeatedly. It didn't work very well. Coloured dots were dancing in front of his eyes, and his breath was more of a wheezing. Still, he could feel himself healing already, though the pain was pretty bloody severe. He'd bit down on his tongue when he hit the ground, too, and had to spit out blood. It was so not cool at all ( ... )

Mistoffelees saw Brice leave and figured that hey, as long as the kid is walking, he'll be alright. Eddie on the other hand wasn't walking, and seemed to need quite a lot of care before he would. The magician took a few steps up to check on Eddie, and the blue light faded from his hands.

"I got a cloak for Christmas," he said as a reply to May's question. "I'll go and get it, it's still in the Great Hall."

He turned and hurried back, returning to the scene a few moments later with a long black cloak in his arms. He draped it over Eddie's body.

"What is he?" he asked curiously, and frowned at the unconscious boy.
