The last time May heard anything like Venom's agonized screams was when - oh no. Please, no.
She rushes to Eddie's side, completely ignoring his nakedness in her panic, terrified that someone else has died on her watch, and frantically checks for a pulse.
There it is. May sags in relief. "Oh, thank God. He's alive." Then reality kicks in.
Yep, Eddie's alive all right. And stark naked. "Oh. Um." Her face is almost as red as her sweater as she asks, "Anyone got a coat?"
Brice grunted from pain and he paled, feeling bones protest in his body as Venom squeezed the air from his lungs. Not good. So very not good. Venom's teeth were suddenly way too close to his face, and Brice struggled as best he could. It was a good effort, but ultimately it was useless. Venom was too strong. ShitThen the webbing hit and Brice was dropped like a ragdoll. He lay on the ground and tried to clear his vision by blinking repeatedly. It didn't work very well. Coloured dots were dancing in front of his eyes, and his breath was more of a wheezing. Still, he could feel himself healing already, though the pain was pretty bloody severe. He'd bit down on his tongue when he hit the ground, too, and had to spit out blood. It was so not cool at all
( ... )
Mistoffelees saw Brice leave and figured that hey, as long as the kid is walking, he'll be alright. Eddie on the other hand wasn't walking, and seemed to need quite a lot of care before he would. The magician took a few steps up to check on Eddie, and the blue light faded from his hands.
"I got a cloak for Christmas," he said as a reply to May's question. "I'll go and get it, it's still in the Great Hall."
He turned and hurried back, returning to the scene a few moments later with a long black cloak in his arms. He draped it over Eddie's body.
"What is he?" he asked curiously, and frowned at the unconscious boy.
"More like, 'what was that thing that had a hold of him,'" May answers. "I've seen that thing before, something a lot like it." She glances over at Mel, realizing that's who the "forgive me" was directed at. "Believe me, he was not in control of it."
The adrenaline is wearing off, and she is suddenly aware that she is outside, in Scotland, in late December, without a coat. They're all going to need to get inside shortly. She shakes her head to clear it, and realizes belatedly that she's still wearing the earrings Dom gave her. Both of them, despite everything. She hasn't lost this pair yet. It'd almost be funny if the situation was different.
"Anyone know how to get to the Hospital Wing? I haven't been here long enough, and I think we're going to have to get him there."
'I do,' whispers Mel rustily, shaking her head. Eddie was there, Brice had gone, she was starting to feel drained from all the vibes she'd given off. 'Thanks,' she says to the two conscious.
'Will he be OK?' she asks, nervously, 'If we get him inside?'
She draws out her wand, muttering the levitation spell--the only one she knows--and hopes that floating an unconcious man through the Hogwarts corridors won't look too bad.
'Will he remember anything? And--wil you be OK?'
The last question is directed at May.
Too shellshocked to wonder about what Eddie had said. Too scared to think it meant anything at all. Let it all be nonsense babbled in the moment, and everything will be a mite better.
Mistoffelees nodded, both at May's explanation and at Mel's thank-you. He had not seen much of Venom, but yes, the creature had seemed to be fairly out of control.
"I know where it is, too," he said. He'd spent some time there, a while back. He turned to Mel, offering a smile. "He'll be okay. They do wonders here."
He recognised Mel. She was a friend of Quaxo's, wasn't she? Yeah... He remembered being around for a raiding of the kitchens once, a long time ago. Though this girl seemed more tired, sort of... sadder, than the Mel he remembered seeing then, through Quaxo's eyes. Mistoffelees frowned momentarily. Yeah. Sadder. Though maybe it was just the current situation that caused it, and anyway, it wasn't his business.
After they brought him there, Eddie Brock lie dormant in a bed in the hospital wing, thanks to the kindness of the very people he had been trying to kill.
It was probably hard to believe that such a frail, kindhearted person could have become such a nightmare. A nightmare that was now slipping into the memories of those it had haunted. Eddie had passed into a coma, but it was probably for the best. The guilt of knowing what he had done would likely have been the end of him. But at least now, unconscious, the Venom within him could finally subside. The nurses would wake him, sooner or later...
Whether or not he would remember anything remained up for questioning. But regardless of the outcome, there was one positive consequence of the situation that would remain. Eddie Brock had received a gift no box could wrap.
Mel had restored his heartbeat.
((To be continued...dun dun dun! :-) Okay, Eddie's participation in this thread is over. Longest Christmas thread EVAR.))
((Sorry! Lost wireless connection at Grandma's and am only just now getting on. Wanted to at least answer Mel.))
"I think so," May says to Mel, but she's obviously unsteady on her feet. "Well, I will be when we get inside and I get food. And a shower. And lots of sleep." She scowls at her torn and dirty sweater, but figures she should be used to wardrobe malfunctions by now. "Um, I'm May. I just got Sorted into Gryffindor and this is the last way I expected to meet anybody here. Hi."
Her side twinges then, reminding her she got thrown into a wall not too long ago. "Ow. I think we need to get inside."
