Survived the Sudden Spring Storm. Sort of.

A small tornado was sighted on the ground about 20 miles from my house, but we were just hit with raging wind, torrential downpour, and the largest hail I've seen in several years.  (Gotta love Texas!)  The diameter averaged 2-inches, with some of the larger pieces coming in near 3 inches.  The hail portion of the storm lasted about 10 minutes.  ( Read more... )

Yes, exactly! I definitely escaped the worst of it.

Ten minutes of hail that size feels (and sounds) like an hour. We were lucky to just have roof damage and a dented van. I saw on the news several folks sitting on 183 with busted-out windshields. Yikes!

Hope it passes you by unscathed!

Your license plate says 'Snark'? Awesome.

I grew up in Wisconsin. I feel for you. Tornadoes were a way of life up there, and I will never forget a few experiences ... *shudder*

Glad you're all okay.

LOL on the license plate. I was quite amazed to find it available until I remembered I live in Texas. :-)

Oh, I've heard Wisconsin can be dreadful for storms. Eeep! I used to think my childhood overindulgence in "The Wizard of Oz" was to blame for my rampant fear of tornadoes, but no ... they're just f**ing scary!

Sorry for your roof and car damage, but I'm glad it wasn't worse.

Thank you! I called the insurance company today and was immediately routed to the "Central Texas Storm Crisis Center," set up specifically for Wednesday's hail and wind. It sounds like many folks fared far worse than us ... baseball and softball sized hail just four miles from our house. I'm just so glad no one was hurt!

They were beautiful, too, in a bizarre way. I guess some of the larger pieces took quite a long time to form, so there were several lovely rings of white and clear within the individual spheres. It was like looking at a cross-section of tree rings!
