Transmutation - 001

My sons are arguing about my presence at a party that's supposed to be celebrating a holiday that promotes peace on Earth and goodwill toward men.

How terribly ironic that in wishing to spend time with my family, I've only served to further drive them apart.

I'm a terrible father...

Is this about what I think it's about?

Most likely.

I'm sure you saw Edward's post earlier, right?

Actually, I'm not sure I did. But I'm guessing he was pretty mad at you...

It seems that he hates me so much that he can't even stand to be in the same room with me.

I feel really awful. Naoto apparently put a lot of effort into preparing this party for her family, and now I've gone and split everyone up. Was it really so selfish of me to want to spend the holidays with my children...?

We're not fighting anymore, Dad.

But it doesn't sound as though you've made up, either...

Don't worry about us. Please.

But I'm your father. It's my job to worry about my children.

I'm sorry. I think I might be partly to blame, too...

...Why do you say that?

Because I think I might have pushed Edward too hard into attending this party, even though I knew you'd probably show up. I just wanted everyone to spend Christmas together as a family...

You're not to blame, child. If anything you're trying a bit too hard, I think. Edward is a stubborn boy. Not many people are willing to put up with that sort of behavior.

Alright old man, listen up, you bastard.

You can't prevent the argument because it's already happened. Whatever it is with you and focusing on the past, keep it to yourself.

I am not going to this party. If you want to spend time with Al, and Naoto and Winry, then you go to the party and have a good time. You may as well since Al doesn't want to see me.

No, you should go, Edward. I've already decided not to come. It's more important for you to spend time with Alphonse. He's your brother, after all.

I thought the 'listen up' implied this isn't a discussion. I'm not going. Al doesn't want to see me. Possibly ever again.

I don't care if you go or don't, but don't make it my fault if you don't.

That's not true, Edward. Besides, we already discussed the matter at length. I'll spend time on Christmas Eve with Alphonse so that you can spend time with everyone at the party.

I don't want you to make any sacrifices on my account. I know how much this party means to you, so... you should go.
