Happy meme, day 8

Dec 17, 2008 15:20

This has been making me laugh since it happened about an hour ago.

The acronym for the trial that I work on is ASPID[1]. Don't ask me what it stands for, I've forgotten (and while trying to remember realised that I'm not sure I ever knew. I've come up for at least three options for 'A' and 'I' each.)

Anyway, I headed down to collect the specimens from Pathology as usual. Got to the counter where there was a new guy who'd obviously just started.

"Hi, are there any specimens for the ASPID Trial?"

He looks at me a bit strangely.

"The ASPID Trial? They should be in that fridge or that freezer."

Still looking at me strangely. The usual guy who's showing him the ropes and has been busy off to one side realises there's a problem and starts coming over, just in time for the new guy to hesitantly say:

"Any specimens for the Ass Patrol?!?"

Both myself and the usual guy cracked up laughing, the new guy blushed red, and I showed him the spelling on the top of the labelled esky I was carrying.

OK, now I get why he was looking at me strangely. I think he thought I might have been asking for the medical equivalent of striped paint.

And seriously, I know I speak with an accent but it's not normally that bad!

[1] The postdoc goes one better - her trial acronym is SCARE.
