The other day I was listening to the news as I drove to work, and there was a story about the mudslides in Southern California. It started off: "So-And-So, a resident of La Conchita, has been making waves with the media on screen. So-And-So, who has shoulder-length dred locks, lost more than just his house in the mudslides." I know! Because dred-locks mean he's a hippie bum and a lazy good-for-nothing unlike all those hard-working perfectly-coifed media types who work really hard and ALWAYS do the right thing so this is emphasizing the difference and why ACTUALLY he sucks and they are awesome.

or something. Like it's just really stupid.

Have the best time ever in Michigan!

Also, there may be some drunken, fangirl-OD posts forthcoming. You've been warned.
I can't wait!

Yeah, clearly guys with dreds are crazy and reactionary, and therefore their criticism of any establishment is invalid.

Just talked to baylorsr... Evil plots are coming right along! WhooT!

In the 80's It was the heartless corporations that got a big chunk of my distain... but it occurs to me that somewhere in the mid nineties the Media with its soul-less exploitation of grief and misfortune, hyperbole, and damn near side-show mentality that has taken over that spot in my brain (without the actual fun of having the weather-prompt-reader biting the head off a live chicken). I wouldn't say we have a "free press" anymore, we pay and pay and pay.

and what's this OD of which you speak?

The media are just unbelievable sometimes. Luckily the worst they do in my particular area is run stupid stories where someone's sister's husband's mother's sister's husband's nephew's child once new someone famous. Or, stop the press! Brad Pitt's ex gardener was once engaged to a woman who'd previously been married to a man who's cousin once knew someone who was from Wales! Wow!

Have a most excellent time in Michigan, y'hear me? I want to be able to hear to squeals of fangirl delight all the way over here! Safe journey!
*hugs*
x.

P.S. Drunken posts are the best kind. I will be waiting and hoping for some from you!
