thoughts passing through my brain

The other day I was listening to the news as I drove to work, and there was a story about the mudslides in Southern California. It started off: "So-And-So, a resident of La Conchita, has been making waves with the media on screen. So-And-So, who has shoulder-length dred locks, lost more than just his house in the mudslides." So I'm thinking, what... did his dreds get caked with mud, and he had to cut them out? Weird.

The story continues, "So-and-So's wife and three of his four children have been missing since the slides, and are presumed dead." And then the reporter goes on to talk about how he got in trouble with security at the site of the slides, because he didn't have a pass, but crossed over the security lines to dig, looking for his family, and he flipped out at the media there, because they had passes to be in the secured area but weren't digging. Sound bytes of him freaking out saying anyone who could should be digging for bodies and survivors. Which--point.

But me, I'm still back on the reporting journalist, because WTF does this guy's HAIR have to do with the story? The story is that this man lost nearly his entire family, and is criticizing the media for sitting back and watching instead of being an active part of the relief effort. It's like those stories they used to show us in J-school, the "what not to do, it's sexist" stories from the 50s: "Two people were killed in an automobile accident Tuesday night. The man, 17, was driving, and was killed on impact. The girl, 28, a perky redhead, died of her injuries after crawling from the wreck."

That stuff drives me nuts.

In other news... Get ready, RED-HOT ALIEN RESISTANCE, I'm coming to join up. I'm packing up my pretty, pretty DVDs, I'm buying new underwear to adorn with the names of RHAR fighter-boys, and I'm ... getting on a train to Michigan. I personally believe that the speed and energy of the collective running in circles could affect the Earth's gravity.

Also, there may be some drunken, fangirl-OD posts forthcoming. You've been warned.

fangirls are love, end times, rhar, dood wtf, blah blitty blah
