In which Randall wakes up.

Everything was sore. There was a strange beeping in his ears. He groaned softly as he started to shift. His fingers moved lightly and brushed against something - someone. He let the tips of his fingers softly feel the curve of a jaw, a lock of hair getting in the way as well. He knew it. It just wasn't sinking in just yet.

Anna had fallen asleep. She wasn't sure when, but she knew that it was at some point during the process. She didn't stir until she felt something moving against her face. Her first instinct was to swat it away, but then she remembered where she was, and she snapped up slightly. "Randall?"

He heard her voice and it woke him up more. He grumbled slightly and opened his eyes again. He was...confused. He wasn't so sure where he was. "Anna..." he murmured.

"Hey," she said softly, a relieved smile crossing her face. "There you are."

His hand curled to hold her cheek as his eyes dropped shut again. "What's going on?"

"You were in a car accident," she said softly, turning and kissing his palm lightly. "You're in the hospital."

He nodded slowly, taking that in, but then he remembered. He bolted up. Well, the best he could given his health and the IV in his arm. "Frankie. Where's Frankie?"

"Easy, honey, easy," she said softly, shifting so that she was sitting up on the bed sideways next to him. "He's fine. He's with his mom." Randall met her eyes for a moment and nodded. Then he breathed easier and lay back again. He linked his fingers through hers quietly. She pushed herself up slowly, leaning over to kiss the top of his head lightly. "You okay?"

"Yeah," he said softly. He sighed at the touch, then looked at her. "You're here."

"Heather came over when you didn't get home when you were supposed to, and she made some calls -- Dean drove us down when we found out about the accident."

"I'm sorry."

"Not your fault," she said, shaking her head. "It was an accident. It happens." He closed his eyes again, just letting his fingers brush her arm and feel her there. "I'm just glad you're okay."

"C'mere," he whispered. He pulled on her arm slightly to pull her closer.

She did as she was asked, moving gently and settling in next to him. He carefully wrapped his arms around her and dropped his face to the top of her head with a sigh. She closed her eyes and curled up closer to him, just relaxing and trying to let the worry melt out of her. His eyes squeezed shut and he held her tighter. She tilted her head up, pressing a kiss to the side of his neck. He really didn't want anything but that moment right then. He didn't want to talk to doctors or have his family fall all over him. He didn't want to let the memories of the crash flash through his head like they were trying to do, and he didn't want to think about the things he had dreamed of while he slept. He tipped his head down slightly to press his lips to her forehead. Anna let him stay close, just giving him whatever he needed as best she could.

"You okay?" he asked.

"Me?" she sighed, shifting so that she was curling up closer. "I'm fine."

"Good," he nodded. That was important to him.

"Are you okay?"

"Of course," he said, not feeling so certain.

She watched him for a moment, before resting her chin on his chest. "It's okay if you're not."

He didn't really know what he was. Scared maybe. He didn't want to talk about it yet, though. His lips brushed hers. "I love you."

"I love you too."

He held her quietly for awhile longer, but then the door opened. He didn't hear it open, but the doctor stepped through with his clipboard. When the doc looked up, he jumped slightly, noticing Randall was awake. He cleared his throat slightly and Randall jumped at that. Anna shifted slightly, and started to sit up more, pulling away as she was not sure whether or not she should actually be on the bed.

The doctor smiled and walked over. "How are you feeling?"

"Okay," Randall nodded.

"Well, let's just check out some vitals here," he nodded, moving closer. He then proceeded in checking Randall over for a few tests. Anna shifted further down the bed, staying out of the way and letting him do his work. The bandage on his forehead, hiding a nice sized cut, was pulled back for a moment. Then the doctor refastened it. "We didn't find anything broken or out of place, but do you feel anything more sore than maybe it should?"

Randall lay there a minute, then looked down at his shoulder. "Shoulder's a bit sore," he nodded.

The doctor checked it carefully and nodded after a minute. "Doesn't seem too severe, but we can put a sling on it. That should help."

"Okay," Randall nodded.

He did a couple more checks then clapped his hands together. "Everything looks fine to me. I'm going to send in some pain meds, and we're going to keep you here until tomorrow. Just to make sure."

"Thank you," Randall replied.

"Would you like me to let your family know you're up?"

"Please."

"Though I don't want to tire you, so when your friend here leaves, someone else can come in." Randall nodded again and the doctor soon left. Randall sighed and leaned back in the bed again, looking over at Anna.

Anna smiled at him, before squeezing his hand lightly. "Dean went in search of coffee. I should go track him down, make sure he didn't disappear into a black hole."

He squeezed her hand back. "Just..give me a couple more minutes?"

"Sure," she nodded.

He brought her hand up to kiss her fingers gently. "Going to stay until they release me?"

She nodded again, with a small smile. "I can do that."

He chewed this inside of his cheek, his brows knit together as he thought. "You like Suzie Q, right?"

"Yeah, I do," she nodded. "Why?"

"Well...cuz I was thinking...if the accident had been worse or something...or...well, someone would have to take care of Suzie, right?"

"Hey," she said softly, leaning over to kiss him. "Don't think like that."

"I'm...not trying to be all dark and gloomy, I..." he shrugged. "I love that cat. I don't want her to ever wind up at a shelter or something."

She nodded a bit, before pulling back. "Yeah, I would have taken care of her."

"Good," he nodded. She nodded as well, just sitting there with him. "Don't worry," he nodded. "I'm sure I'll be fine for sex when we get home." Yeah, he was just trying to lighten the mood.

She laughed slightly, before shaking her head. "That's the last thing I'm worried about. I just want to make sure you're okay."

He grinned at her, but it slowly faded. He shrugged and glanced over to her. "It was kinda scary."

"Yeah, I'm sure it was."

He nodded and relaxed back again. "Yeah."

She squeezed his hand again. "I should let you family come in."

"Tell Dean thanks for me. For bringing you two."

"I will."

He nodded, then waved a finger for her to come closer. She did as she was told, leaning in closer to him. He tapped his finger to her lips. "One big, juicy one before you leave," he smirked. She chuckled a bit, before leaning in and kissing him warmly. His fingers curled through her hair as he kissed her, almost as though he never would again.

She held the kiss as long as he wanted, before pulling back with a breath. "I'll see you later, okay?"

"Promise?"

"Promise," she nodded.

"Okay," he nodded and let go of her. She pushed herself up off the bed and made her way back out of the room, down towards the hallway. Randall just closed his eyes with a sigh as she went.
