[Let's do this one backward, last question first.]

Jaguar.

[So it might be somewhere more around sixteen or seventeen minutes, but when one is running from the other side of the village, some allowances should be made. Ginia comes running over at a speedy pace and not even winded when she stops in front of House 25.

Sup, Draco.]

[He's just leaning against the porch railing, albeit impressed that she managed to get here that fast. Quite speedy for someone who can't teleport.]

You're a bit late, but I'll forgive you this time. [He'll grin as he steps off of his porch, joining her on the ground and slipping his wand from his back pocket.] I can either just show you without any explanation, or I can bore you with details first. Which do you prefer?

[Ten minute mile pace. Oh yeah.

Ginia considers the two options as she pulls out her notepad and pen from her pocket.]

Seems you're inclined with showing me first so let's go ahead and do that.

[Yeah, it's probably fairly obvious he's antsy to show off. So without further adieu, he'll be stepping away from her for the moment and pulling out his wand and without warning firing off a spell.] Expecto Patronum!

[If there was one good thing about Harry and company attempting to turn him into a Gryffindor, it was this. It's not long before the white mist flows from the tip of his wand and forms into a sentient being. A sentient being that, in fact, looks like a coyote pup. Who will promptly go up to Ginia and sit by her foot, staring up at her.]

[Whether it's Helios teleporting around or slinging about fireballs, Giles creating tabletop twisters as they talk magic, or even her own meager attempts at healing spells, Ginia will never stop being amazed by magic. The very nature of it instills a sense of child-like wonder and curiosity in her and as Draco casts his spell, her attention is fixed on the mist and the creature that forms from it.

She stares down at the coyote pup before slowly crouching and offering her hand to it like she would to any other dog.]

[And the pup will go ahead and sniff at her hand, radiating that warm positive energy Patronuses are known for. Draco's just going to hang back and watch, monitoring the little brat.]

Ginia, Padfoot. Padfoot, please don't jump on her.

...this is why they're my favorites at this point.

[Ginia gently moves her hand to scratch behind his ears, surprised how she can feel some solidarity there, yet not. It's like touching a very fine silk that can support her hand, all while threatening to tear at the slightest touch. Though there's no weakness or giving here. Just wonderful, positive energy.

She writes out her message while crouched down, but stands to show it to him.]

It's beautiful. So the details?

[Padfoot's just going to wander around the area, stretching out and exploring. It's been a while since Draco's summoned him.]

...there are monsters in my world that are called Dementors. Big ugly things that like to suck the life out of you...literally. They've been known to guard Azkaban to keep prisoners in or to give them the Kiss. It basically sucks out your entire soul. Worse than death even.

But if a wizard can get his magic right, he can conjure a Patronus. It takes a lot more power to create one that forms an actual shape, and the way that Hermione explained it to me is that it's basically taking on the form of your inner you or something to that effect. It sounds cheesy, but they run on happiness. A wizard has to focus on happiness and hold onto it in order for the Patronus to be out.

[Ginia pays attention to Draco even as she watches Padfoot wander around. A Patronus, a spell based off happiness able to ward off soul-sucking monsters.]

Is this why you were asking about favorite animals?

I keep forgetting how observant you are. Precisely why. I want to see if there's a connection between people's favorites and their own personality. Thus far you've proven my theory to be right.

I may have, but what about others? A sample of one does not make a conclusion.

Still doing tests, though I'm finding others are similar as well. And then there are a few rogue answers that I just can't count. [You know, like Grune who apparently likes everything.] I'll have to decipher it some more.

[And yet that answer says so much about Grune, doesn't it.] Amazing what a simple question can tell about a person.

[Her attention turns back to the luminescent coyote exploring the yard.]

Casting a Patronus. Is it difficult?

[Yeah basically. Draco's still not sold though. He and Grune have a special relationship.] I'm glad you agree. Also amazing how many people are wiling to answer such a simple question.

[He whistles when Padfoot starts wandering toward the yard of House 26. Who knows what's still growing over there.] ...yes. As much as I hate to admit it, yes. I couldn't for quite a long time. And a friend of mine often has trouble casting hers when she needs to.

For better or worse, people seem to be fairly willing to answer questions around here. My last entry, case in point.

[Ginia gives a tiny nod, able to see where some of the trouble might come in. Having the right memory to use as a base is the important part, then the actual mechanics of the spell.]

Do all spells in your world have a verbal component to them?
