Winchesters are stubborn (Rp for gunoilnleather and lucifers-tux)

Jess didn't really find herself in a bad mood that often. And she found herself pissed even less, but leaving Dean's room at the hotel she found she was both, and was about ready to abandon her normal tenets of maturity and feminism and throw a good old fashioned hissy fit. They were lying to her. And Dean, at least, knew that she knew that they ( Read more... )

She wasn't a Hunter by any stretch of the imagination, but Jess did have the same instincts as every human that had been mostly repressed by the lack of predators in the natural world. About halfway down the trail and she felt all the hairs on the back of her neck stand up and she paused, having the strange feeling that something was watching her. She couldn't figure out what, but it made her walk just a little bit faster, and look over her shoulder a few times as she did so.

And then suddenly, the sound of breaking twigs and brush met her ears and she twisted around in time to see a huge black thing sprinting at her, teeth flashing, and bared, and she had just enough time to let out the first half of a scream as it leapt toward her - and Dean hit her from the side, tumbling them both out of the thing's path ( ... )

Sam sat there in the passenger seat, his fists clenched in his lap, he knew at any other time he would've realized that Dean was too beat up to drive, but he was so filled with the adrenaline and panic from before it was all he could do to stay still in his seat. When Dean finally slid into the driver's seat Sam's fists were clenched so tightly he could feel a few of the more jagged nails cut through his skin, but only enough for a few beads of blood to well up.

He stiffened at his brother's words, turning to look out the window, because he knew if he didn't he'd do something stupid, like punch Dean in the face for even thinking Sam was going to let him leave after all of this. He sat there stewing in the passenger seat the entire way back to the apartment, and as soon as Dean pulled up he reached over and grabbed the keys from the ignition, stuffing them in his pocket and getting out of the car. Moving quickly he opened the trunk and grabbed Dean's stuffing, checking to make sure that Jess' car was in the parking lot with a sigh of ( ... )

She'd made it back to the apartment without any problems, though a few times she'd heard sirens in the distance and her heart had jumped to about her throat. She wasn't used to being nervous around cops - she was pretty pathetic when it came to a criminal life, made sure her insurance was always up to date, got her car inspected like she was supposed to, and while she might speed a little, it was never more than ten over - and it was unsettling. But fifteen minutes after she left she was pulling into her normal spot and pulling the keys from the ignition.

Dean had told her to put her leg up and get ice on it, but as she unlocked the door and let herself in and then relocked it immediately (she wasn't going to forget the sight of that Dog anytime soon, and she really didn't want anything unwelcome coming through her front door) she realized she was still way too keyed up to do anything like sit in one place. So she did what she always did when she was nervous - even though it was normally for things like test grades and essays she ( ... )

Sam gave Jess a relieved smile when it was her opening the door, he moved past, the urge to wrap her up in a protective hug, but when she turned to Dean, that familiar anger came back. Moving further into the room he tossed Dean's bag onto the couch, but kept the Impala's keys in his pocket, knowing that Dean could care less about the stuff in the bag, it was the keys he would take the second he could and run away ( ... )

She snorted at Dean's response, and then shrugged as he commented about her leg. "I was too nervous to just sit around with my foot up and wait, and besides, you're the one who needs medical attention," But then Sam was moving past her again, voice low and angry like she wasn't used to hearing it and all but shoving Dean into the kitchen chair, and he went for the first aid kit, which had her going for a pan, and putting on some water to boil for the tools Sam was going to use to stitch Dean up. She had watched a movie or two, and she did know the importance of keeping things disinfected ( ... )

Sam was still seething over the comment about him taking his jacket off in the foyer, knowing that if his brother was willing to joke in this situation that things were worse then he thought. He didn't even notice how much blood there really was until he had a stack of bloody towels set next to him on the kitchen table. Face stoic, keeping all of the anger he felt at the pair of them built up, he began threading a needle he'd gotten with dental floss. His movements stilled briefly as he felt Jess come up behind him before he felt a little of the tension in his shoulders release at her kiss. It soothed some of the fear within him to know that Jess was still there and hadn't run off somewhere else as fast as she could ( ... )

Jess shifted slightly as Sam and Dean spoke, feeling almost as if she was intruding in on a moment she shouldn't have been privy too. But instead of leaving she pulled out the chair next to Dean and settled into it, her chin finding one of her hands as she watched Sam's stitching. He'd done this before - she could tell with the way his hands moved over the wound, the way he worked with a precision that could have only been born of practice. Which meant that they did this when they were younger - and she suddenly had the thought that maybe this was what they did when Sam had said his family used to be mechanics. God, she couldn't even imagine growing up doing this ( ... )

Sam tried to still the way his hands shook as he continued to stitch up Dean's wounds, wondering what had happened after he'd left. When he'd gone off to Stanford he figured he and Dad would be stuck together at the hip, like usual. Using each other for hunts or at least there to help if they needed it not letting Dean go off on his own to almost get killed by a black dog. If Sam needed something else to hate his father for then here it was, in the form of his beaten up and battered brother. Even if Sam hated hunting, and what it meant for those he loved, it didn't mean that he wanted his brother to go off and get hurt because he couldn't call someone for help.

Jaw tight he muttered out, 'Where's Dad?' leaning close enough to bite off a particularly hard strand of floss. Pulling back he spit it off to the side in time to hear the rebuke from Jess. Looking over at her he felt his fingers tighten briefly against the skin of his brother's back, wondering again exactly why Jess had been over at Dean's. Memories of lost dates taken from ( ... )

She caught the small smile he sent her and offered him a shrug back. It was true, and she figured if they were both going to be in trouble they should at least get the story strait, "You got worked up and I got pissed you weren't telling me - so we're both to blame - I should have taken the bus back to campus,"

But even Jess had to wince at Dean's insistence that as soon as he was patched up he was going to be out the door, and she couldn't imagine how it probably made Sam feel. Dean comes and confesses he wanted to fix things between them, gets almost killed again because he's protecting her and then wants to bail on Sam the first chance he gets? She cast him a dry look and snorted when Sam ignored him ( ... )

Sam couldn't help a low scoff falling from his lips as he heard about their 'wonderful' father leaving Dean behind. It made his heart clench to think that that was the time Sam had left him as well, and for the first time since he'd been here he regretting following his order to never come back. All the times he'd watched his friends leaving for holidays, and spending them with their families...and Dean had been just as alone. Sam suddenly wanted to find their father and punch him hard for all the things he'd done to them, but he knew even then that Dean would stop him ( ... )

She raised an eyebrow at Dean's response, but she had to at least admit that leaving it up to Sam was probably a wise choice on his part. And she knew even if Sam wouldn't come out and admit that he most likely wanted Dean to stay. Her eyes tracked over to the taller man and she caught the look Sam was giving her and smiled, giving him her own little nod. She really wanted to just--hug him. To sit on the couch and wrap around him and spend some time decompressing, but she could tell this was more important, this right now, figuring out the dynamic between the two of them ( ... )
