Winchesters are stubborn (Rp for gunoilnleather and lucifers-tux)

Jess didn't really find herself in a bad mood that often. And she found herself pissed even less, but leaving Dean's room at the hotel she found she was both, and was about ready to abandon her normal tenets of maturity and feminism and throw a good old fashioned hissy fit. They were lying to her. And Dean, at least, knew that she knew that they were lying and still wasn't willing to tell her whatever it was they did that ended up with what looked like a bear mauled Dean's back. It wasn't like it was going to change how she felt about Sam. Hell, if she figured right, everyone had a few things in their past that they didn't want to talk about and heaven knew everyone had secrets - but she wasn't going to just reject the past two years of her life because Sam had some complicated family history. And Dean had the audacity to all but pat her on the head and tell her to be a good girl and run along back to Sam and to tell him goodbye for Dean and well, Dean was lucky Jess wasn't that into punching people. Obviously the Winchester brothers needed to do some seriously talking, and do it about yesterday.

She'd ridden the bus to the hotel once she'd called in the few favors to find out where Dean was staying, but with the mood she was in, she knew she needed to take the walk back to calm down or she was going to make things even worse with Sam by going in and demanding answers. An ultimatum wasn't going to solve anything here, and she just--was going to walk until she got over the need to put one on the table.

It was getting towards noon, and the pavement was warming under the California sun and the breeze that was making a valiant effort to keep off the heat was doing it's job of clearing Jess' head and inspired by it, she decided to take the shortcut through the city park instead of just following the main streets back to campus, letting her mind wander as her feet followed the dirt path back into the woods.

And because Dean hadn't told her what it was they really did in the Winchester family, she was completely unaware that there were Things that were able to smell Hunters. And remember scents. And that by spending the time she did with Dean, she smelled very much of the elder Winchester. And that the Black Dog he'd been hunting - that had given him the rake down his back - was now hunting anything that smelled like the one he'd gotten a taste of. Of course, Dean hadn't told her this, so Jess took herself away from the populated places of Stanford on a Saturday, and headed back into the forest, hands shoved in her pockets as she strolled and tried to come up with a way to bring all of this up to Sam that wouldn't have him clamming up on her, and completely unaware of any impending danger.
