Annoying phone calls and scams

On Tuesday the 22nd of July 2008 I got a phone call. I wasn’t able to get to the phone in time so it went to voice mail and showed up as a missed call. I Googled the telephone number. Over the next 2 hours I got several more calls. Tuesday I had about 8 calls total from 3 phone numbers.

I just left my message as the generic one that is already there so there is no give away as to where I am male, female, business or otherwise.

I'm very surprised by the response of your phone company - numbers can be blocked at the exchange (they can here, and we're not nearly as up to date as America in telecommunications).

They can stop stalkers from being able to call people's numbers can't they?

I can always call back again today and hope I get someone different. But the gal yesterday says it's not unusual getting calls asking to block a number.

Sad to say, I don't know how they handle stalkers.

After I wrote that I did some googling, and it looks like they're not allowed to or something?

Lots of people complain about it, and pass around tips for the kind of stuff you've already done (setting custom ring tones etc) or getting a call blocking device.

What a terrible situation :(
