City of Glass-Paul Auster

City of Glass starts out with an author of mystery novels mistakenly receiving a call for a detective named Paul Auster. He ignores it at first, but soon takes on the persona of Paul Auster and takes the case. It changes his life and his commitment to the case and the wellbeing of the couple that hired him ends up taking over his existence.

I started reading it a few years ago based on countless recommendations but I couldn't ever get into it and ended up leaving it, half read, somewhere.

I read it as part of the New York Trilogy, too. I remember liking it but I also remember being disappointed by the ending.

read it, loved it. too bad you didn't enjoy it.

his novel's aren't supposed to be a means to an end. his genius is inherent in the process of the narrative. there is really no such thing as finality. the only conclusive fact about life is death, and I feel like his novels emulate that quite well.

i read it as a graphic novel and actually designed a mini unit of study around it for upper middle school and high school students.
