I'm supposed to be learning 23 lyrical ballads, so, clearly, I am bitching about DW instead.
OK. When the episode aired, I didn't have much problem with River, really. I didn't love her, but I didn't hate her - I was sort of settled on the disliking side of indifference.
My problems with this episode are more like it falls apart when you think about

I just finished watching and was trying to work out why River and the Doctor didn't work, and this is it.
lives happily ever after with clone kids and her team members, one of whom is suddenly beautified again and is liked despite the fact they all hated her before, without ever seeing the man she loves again, with NO PROBLEM? I'm very prone to talking at the screen, but saying "oh, you're kidding," - now with extra added expletives - at the telly twice in an episode never happens. This was the first part. (Clicking his fingers to open the TARDIS was the second.) And made worse by the thought that she'd probably have her own Doctor there.
There's far too much to agree with here without ranting on forever, so I'll say, this -
So, you know, sorry River, but I think you just doomed your own relationship - made me laugh quite a bit. Yeah okay, I didn't like her ( ... )

And that makes me worry, because RTD sends out the episode briefs, so the whole basic plot was probably largely his idea anyway.

I feel like these would have been great if she wasn't in them. Donna's story was so sad (that's where the crying was), and the acting was really good, it was just that the characters didn't work together.
Like you said last week though, perhaps he just likes his own characters better, so when he gets to write them all they'll be fantastic characters.
Or he could just bring back Sally Sparrow?

Maybe he only tells his name when playing spin the bottle and getting dared.

and it's just like... when you think of it, the concepts were cool, and the shadows thing really did freak me out (i'm jumpy, what can i say?), but... putting thought into it, the Doctor knows that he has to do all that stuff, just to save her again. it's kinda... wrong. and the romantic stuff! the Doctor could never EVER do romance, not in any body. he's way too awkward. it's just... no.
(i didn't like Astrid that much, though... something about her was off, in my eyes.)

Ooh, I definitely like your ending better. It should have happened like that - and that would have been so much more meaningful than a relationship that happens because it HAS to. Reckon we can get a re-film? XD
Yeah, the Doctor sort of fails at romance. Sometimes he gets lucky and the situation or the place works out, but... usually he aims for Naples and ends up in Cardiff. *giggle*

i like my ending, too. i wrote it out, but i don't think i did it justice. i think it'd have to be more visual, and i couldn't describe it how i wanted.
oh, yes. i find any and all intentional romance highly suspect. accidentally romantic things (which was like every 2 minutes, it sometimes felt, with Rose, but in a good way) are totally great, but planned? pfft. so not the Doctor.

Anyway, a condensed version = YOU ARE SO RIGHT IN EVERYTHING YOU SAY.
I loved the episode at first, 'cause I was so like "WEEE NEW WHO!!!"
Then I got over the fangirling and was like "Oh wait... no! BUGGAR OFF MOFFAT AND GET AWAY FROM MY SHOW :Z"
Good luck in your exam! :D

I loved the episode at first - Mm, on the surface it was good, but once you think about it, the whole thing falls apart. And there was so much unrealised potential. The story should have been about Lux, not River.
BUGGAR OFF MOFFAT AND GET AWAY FROM MY SHOW :Z - LOL quite!
Good luck in your exam! :D - Thank you!! I'm really going to need it. =S
