Anyone recommend a de-humidifier?

Nov 25, 2011 08:48

The rooms down at one end of the house tend to be humid and there's a little black mould on the inside of the curtains.

The bedroom, two bathrooms and gym are down that end.

Can anyone recommend a good de-humidifier?

One that's not too expensive to run, but works.

Many thanks.

Have you tried simple things like kitty litter (which absorbs moisture) - an icecream container or so in the cupboards etc?

Never thought of that - does it work outside confined spaces?

I would also suggest making sure your bathroom fans are clean & pulling air out of the room. Make sure you run them during & after every shower.

You need to make sure you have a dehumidifier that is designed for the large space you want to run it in. (4 rooms is not a small space) You might be better off by seeing if you can attach a dehumidifier to your a/c or heating unit.

Both of these are decent units, but it depends on what you want

or

Sadly, I can't see anywhere in the UK where I can get these.

I suggested them based on size, not on model. I have a fridgidare model here at home. You might be better off going to a home improvement store & asking them their advice.

We bought a Frigidaire dehumidifier for our finished basement a few months ago. It works really well and sucks so much water out of the air.

You can set it up with a hose to drain it and run it all the time, but we just run it at night and then empty the bucket in the morning. I haven't noticed any major increases in our electric bill either.
