Explain?

What is this Twilight thing people keep talking about on my flist? All I've been able to determine is that the latest book is crap and that there is going to be a TV show (which also looks crap)

What's all the fuss about?

I just started the first book and there is a 'Buffy'-like appeal to it - 16 year old high school student and a doomed love affair between her and a vampire.

The last book has generated a lot of fandom responses with some hating it.

I has become a phenomena on its own or with clever work by the publisher a la the Potter books with fans parting and queing at midnight for the first sales.

Hmm...the Buffy thing worked for me when I was 16 myself. Not sure I'd get a lot of enjoyment out of it now

OMG dude, it's SO bad. Epic bad. I read it mostly to be able to keep up with the wank, but I weep for the teenage girls who think Edward is a romantic hero.

And as for the HP comparison - it's popular, sure, but it doesn't have nearly as universal an appeal. Plus, Stephenie Meyers makes JKR look like Shakespeare.

I haven't read it, but the reviews I read said it was typical mormon chastity and damsel in distress, where she is very passive--compared to Buffy who's of course the person everyone keeps comparing her to.

I know. I'm inundated with Twilight icons everywhere. As you've already been told, a book series about a teenage vampire boy who is about near perfect as far as I can tell and a teenage girl. Unrequited love and all that. And his family don't eat people or something? And the movie might be ok. I saw the Trailer before Indiana and it wasn't bad. Of course this is all just what I've read mainly, since I hadn't heard of any of it until about a week ago.

Oh, I'm so glad it's not just me not having heard of it. I thought I'd been living under a rock or something

Or maybe we've both been under the same rock?

Hee! That's another explanation

*cuddles up under the rock with you*

I don't want to come out

It's a series of books (the latest one just came out) and an upcoming movie . No tv series... yet...

Yeah, I saw the trailer and I thought it was a TV show

Have you read the Potter books? Remember the Harry/Ginny angsty romance?
Replace Harry with a sparkling vampire, and Ginny with a normal girl, cut off Voldemort and anything that looks like plot and decorate everything with sparkles.

That basically is the Twilight series. And, I only read the first book... well, parts of it... I had to giggle all the time (in the way you giggle about bad fanfic) and when I didn't giggle I skipped a few chapters, becasue they were so boring and so crappy - if I've had read further, I likely would have killed myself by laughing.

Hee! Yeah, someone else mentioned sparkles. I'm puzzled

It sounds bad though and I will be avoiding it methinks

It's what I remember the most; sparkling vampires.

Yeah, why not. I mean, that series most likely will never make it one the "Books you have to have read"-list.

Hehe! It certainly sounds that way
