Well, I'm stuck at my parents house for another hour. Silly me, when my dad said he needed me to clean out the gutters, I actually thought they'd be....dirty. Well silly me. They weren't sparkling...but there was only a bucketfull of leaves and pine needles in them. Took me like 10 minutes. Well, to be fair I didn't get it all. Couldn't. The ladder ( Read more... )

I cannot help but think about one of the Charlie Brown movies where a store was all their Christmass decorations up for Easter. :)

...because sadly, even those of us with traditional, holiday or religious leanings, who are in big support of the holiday and even "start humming annoying christmas tunes the day after thanksgiving" feel the same way too. It's annoying as hell. I threw a small fit in Starbucks last week when they were fully decked out for the holiday. We have no power over this obsessive commercialism, and it pisses us off too.

(Btw, sorry if you get this twice. Our internet keeps freezing up and it caught me mid-post a few minutes ago...)

Agreed. I love Christmas. I was raised as a Catholic, and we are all about the christmas holiday. But this? Madness. I don't really even understand why Christmas should take time away from Thanksgiving. If we're so damn non-denominational, why don't we spend a little longer on holidays like Thanksgiving?

I know, I know. It's the gifts. If people didn't give gifts, it'd be just another family get-together, and for some, a trip to church. But we must BUY! And not only that, but we must celebrate the BUYING! Before get a single bite of Thanksgiving turkey, we must hear the carols and sing along cheerfully and wonder in ignorance why the employees, mournfully selling us our "assorted bath salts" for grandma and our "slipper socks" for Dad, aren't whistling like shiny, red-cheeked elves.

Ah well. I still love Christmas. But like you, I just wish it would stay where it is.
