I worry about misreading social situations all the time. More lately because I socialize less, so I'm out of practice.
Yes to women with swords. Yes to gas mask wtf?
It seems to me -- and I'm not at all photographically inclined, so I may be missing a trick here -- that you might benefit from NaNoWriMo's philosophy, as applied to photography: get it shot, even if it sucks. You have a trigger finger, you have a digital camera, you have things around you which are neither -- so just start shooting and see what it inspires. What can you accomplish with the most boring subjects around? If your apartment's completely clean, how messy can you make it look using only photo FX?
Misreading social situations - yep, all the time. I imagine that will begin to happen more and more often. When I'm not sure, I try to take a "wait and see" approach and hope it'll become clearer. :)
Oh, BTW, would you like copies of some "action shots" of you from MacDeath? I have a bunch of good ones.
It's funny that you mention Steampunk. I've been dabbling in some steampunk accessorizing lately (cos you're right, it's not like I have tons of that shit it my closet or anything... nor do I want to walk around in an effing corset or victorian skirt all day). Then, out of the blue a few weeks ago our guitar player ordered some steampunk goggles. He had no idea that I was into that kind of stuff, and I had no idea about him either. It was just random that we were both getting into the same thing at the same time without the other one knowing it. Seems that steampunk is just one of those things that has made its way into the collective consciousness and people are randomly getting in to. Which is weird, cos it seemed to be a pretty underground thing until recently. Though I guess "punk" and "goth" were also underground until they weren't anymore as well...
