Avis had kept the letter Erik had sent pocketted for days now, it seemed. So it remained as she sat by the fire, on the floor, waiting for Erik to come back. She knew they were returning on Wednesday afternoon, and knew she had to see him immediately.
Taking it out again, she reread it, shaking her head in disbelief over hearing what Wes Broderick had done. It was a good thing he was already dead, the buggering tosser. Avis could have killed him for what he did. Which would have probably resulted in a crucio. . .
But "Ding dong the bloody-f***ing-git was dead," or so some part of Avis' brain seemed to wish to sing aloud now and then. She got some odd satisfaction from knowing their side had lost one of their own. Bastards deserved it.
She sighed sadly and looked back into the fire until she heard footsteps up through the portrait hole, bolting up to her feet and seeing Erik there. She looked at him solemnly before she ran over to him, eyes all teary, and wrapped her arms around him tightly.
Erik had shared very serious information with her in that letter, and he was glad that he had done so. He had no clue how she'd react to it, but he had to tell someone - and as of now she was one of the best friends he had. She'd seemed a bit upset when he didn't explain the Wesley Broderick situation to her before, now that he had the chance he was willing to clear things up.
Surely she understood why he'd acted the way he had. It was a matter of bloody survival! Not just for himself, but for his friends as well. Keeping them all away from that git was one of the best things he could do for them, as he was a target either way.
Erik was surprised to see Avis running toward him, and even more shocked to her arms around him. She wasn't really the hugging type, at least not with him.
"Hullo there, Abfab," he said softly, planting a kiss on top of her head.
Now she had one more person she could add to her list of being able to hug; Erik. She didn't exactly know what to think about the information, only relief and concern for Erik and a sense of protectiveness. Then again, she'd never lost a family member, or had an unforgiveable cast on her. She was a bit naiive in that respect.
She sighed sadly, tightening her hold around his shoulders, letting out a loud "Psh!" when he merely greeted her and kissed the top of her head. "Well? Are you okay? What happened? Is everything okay?" She pulled back and frowned at him, looking over him carefully. "Bloody. . .Darin? He left you alone? What happened? You're lucky you didn't end up dead like that sodding tosser. . ."
Oh. Probably not the best thing to say. Well? She was upset! "Sorry. I didn't mean. . ." She pouted a bit and hugged him again, burying her face into his shoulder.
Erik didn't expect her to be able to relate to what he was feeling, he simply thought it was important for her to know. It showed her that he cared about their friendship or something, sharing information that wasn't easy for him to reveal. He was glad to be added to the hug list, as he was rather fond of hugs and closeness. No concept of personal space.
"If I wasn't okay, I wouldn't be here, he assured her, 'psh'-ing right back at her. He was a stubborn bloke, wouldn't admit to being bad off even if he was. Which he wasn't, not in this case.
He pouted a bit at her questions, not really knowing how to answer. Darin had left him, but only because he'd wanted to help those that were being attacked in the streets and at the Three Broomsticks. He'd run off with that sodding auror. It didn't... it didn't even matter now, Erik couldn't be angry at him. Obviously things had turned out much worse for Darin. It still hurt to think about it, though for many other things he was relieved.
"Don't be sorry! How are you?" he asked, allowing her

Avis wasn't used to affection if it wasn't Ben, really. It would take her a while to learn again, if that's what it took, but she didn't see it as being all that difficult. Sure, it took years with Ben, as they both weren't the huggy-type or anything like that. Avis thought maybe it wasn't such a bad thing to be affectionate. . .
Of course, then her "reputation" was threatened and she wanted to be that scary bird again, and changed her mind.
Avis grumbled jokingly and concentrated on straightening her hair, frowning at him and shoving at his shoulders. "Yeah, I know. Gah, can't win, can I?" she said, yawning and taking another look at him. "You sure you're okay?"
Erik Cohen was absolutely the huggy-type, as in giving and receiving hugs and not so much wearing nappies. It was probably because he'd not been shown as much affection as he could have been as a child. Not neglected really, or treated poorly, simply... invisible most of the time. He liked to display his feelings. Possibly a nonbloke-ish trait.
Erik didn't understand reputations really. He probably had a reputation for being ridiculous. He could accept that.
"No, I'd say you're doomed to be unlikeable," Erik informed her with a 'tsk tsk' of pity and grinned at her shoving his shoulders. Was he okay? Well, not really, but it was becoming quite clear that he would be eventually. That was all that really mattered to him at the moment.
"My life could be far more shite. Look at the chosen one! Potter! He's got it worse than me," Erik pointed out with a smirk and a slight nod. He'd be fine.
((OOC: HAR HAR HAR, FER. You make me laugh :P Huggies.))
"Darnit," Avis sighed, pretending to be absolutely saddened by the news. "Man. And here I thought I was so likeable. I thought hanging around you would change that." Her mind quickly flashed to her threatening to beat up two seventh-years on top of eachother by the lake, and Avis having to explain her to them. Hrmm. Never mind that.
Avis nodded, patting his arm gently. "Yep, that is a bright side," she sarcastically remarked. "But you know, if you ever need anyone to. . .talk to. . .or anything. Or hell, even hug, just. . .I'm around. You know."
She decided it would best to leave out the "when nobody's around" that came after the word "hug." Instead, she looked at the ground awkwardly and said, "I'm. . .glad you're okay. I was worried."
Erik hoped that Avis wouldn't look back on the time they'd been harassing the two seventh years as an indication of their popularity. Hell, Erik knew that loads of people loved him, but definitely not those two. They'd kept right on snogging and making googly eyes at each other while Avis and he had yelled at them about fight club. Actually, that had been the real start to a more meaningful friendship. Not everyone could follow the Erik Cohen train of thought, and they'd teamed up splendidly for that one.
"Give it time, Abfab. Rome wasn't built in a day. Difficult with the togas," Erik stated with a pat to her arm, laughing as she gave a pat to his arm at the exact same time. Great minds, or insanity, something along those lines.
"If I hug you too much, I might accidentally stick my face near your bosom one time and then... well then things get awkward," Erik joked, stretching his arms above his head and sighing

Ah, eloquent, Avis.
