Erik didn't expect her to be able to relate to what he was feeling, he simply thought it was important for her to know. It showed her that he cared about their friendship or something, sharing information that wasn't easy for him to reveal. He was glad to be added to the hug list, as he was rather fond of hugs and closeness. No concept of personal space.

"If I wasn't okay, I wouldn't be here, he assured her, 'psh'-ing right back at her. He was a stubborn bloke, wouldn't admit to being bad off even if he was. Which he wasn't, not in this case.

He pouted a bit at her questions, not really knowing how to answer. Darin had left him, but only because he'd wanted to help those that were being attacked in the streets and at the Three Broomsticks. He'd run off with that sodding auror. It didn't... it didn't even matter now, Erik couldn't be angry at him. Obviously things had turned out much worse for Darin. It still hurt to think about it, though for many other things he was relieved.

"Don't be sorry! How are you?" he asked, allowing her to keep her head in his shoulder as he gave a few light pats to her back.

"Well you could still be a bit hurt. I dunno. So you're all back to normal?" Avis asked. "Do you have to like, stay indoors for the rest of the week? Still take potions? Why were you in St. Mungo's in the first place? Ben said it was because of a potion or summat. And is Margie okay?" she asked quickly, as if trying to get every last bit of information all out.

She tilted her face a bit, at least so she could speak, and replied, "I'm fine. I'm a lot better. I was only hurt on Saturday. Just my hip, thankfully." She pulled back a bit, her sad face not matching what she asked:

"You wanna' see the bruise? It's huge."

Erik Cohen's head was spinning, which made it quite difficult for him to tell it to stop, as he'd need to be able to think such a thing. Avis had several questions for him, and he wanted to answer them all, but all he could come up with at the moment was 'ankle socks', which... really had nothing to do with anything. Except perhaps he'd heard someone discussing their genius in the corridor one day the week prior - before the attacks. Hrmmn.

"They sent some potions to the nurse, she's got them held hostage in her office. Forces me to visit with her. She's quite keen on me," Erik explained with a smirk, patting her shoulder before moving away from her completely. Not that hugging Avis was something he wanted to cut short, but his legs were more wobbly than expected. Probably had something to do with all the stairs he'd been made to climb. Bloody towers.

"In other words.... you're awful and no one wants to snog your hip. Well, that could be remedied in time. And yes, please show," he told her with a grin, moving to sit on the sofa.

Oh, and what was that about potions? Why he'd been sent to St. Mungos? He'd have to answer that later, as hip bruises were far more fascinating.

Avis nodded and let him move away, for the time being satisfied with his answer. It also meant Merlin and Ben were in the clear for their "excuse" on Saturday night of 'no hospital wing vacancy,' or potions needed or summat or the sort.

Her sad mood was somewhat relieved at Erik's positively odd statement, shaking her head and following him to the sofa. "SNOGGING a hip? Well. I won't even ASK how that occured to you. I don't even want to know." Really, though, snogging a hip? Necks seemed okay, but did blokes ever WANT to snog a bird's hip?

Odd. And she had to stop thinking about this immediately.

However, Avis was quite pleased and proud to show off her purple badge of courage. She stood by the couch and pulled up her sweater a bit, tugging down on just the side of her skirt, showing a massive purple and blue bruise covering the top of her hipbone. If she would have showed anymore, he would have seen that it went even down to the lower-half of her thigh, but she wouldn't be flashing any thigh to anyone. "It doesn't hurt anymore," she said, poking at it with her index finger.

Erik didn't know that Merlin and Ben had made excuses for him. He would have been honest with Avis about what happened, but he hadn't even thought much about it since Saturday. Of course, the Death Eaters coming at him... it was a vivid image, but Avis had been faced with the same thing! So... seemed pointless to really whine or complain.

"I was thinking about faces first, I'm not sure how one goes about snogging a hip. Want to try it?" Erik asked, not at all serious and sticking his tongue out at her in a silly fashion.

He didn't want to attempt snogging a hip right now. In fact, not moving sounded like a brilliant, brilliant plan for how to spend the rest of the evening.

"That's incredible, looked like you've been squishing grapes... with erm... your entire body," Erik pointed out, shaking his head at the comment and sighing. Well it had made sense when he was thinking it and not saying it.

"Good it doesn't hurt. I don't hurt either, just very... tired."

Obviously.

Avis glared at him and rolled her eyes yet again. "No. I. . ." Her face turned a bit sour, wondering how in fresh hell anyone went about kissing anyone's hip. . .Bleh! "Gross."

"If I had been squishing grapes with my whole body, the rest of me would be purple, not just my leg," she nodded, as if it was a brilliantly smart thing to say.

"So," she flopped down onto a chair a bit away from her couch. Er, her and Ben's couch. Yes. It was claimed for them, thank you very much, but. . .Erik could use it. "What'd you get hit by? What happened? Details and all. Unless you. . .don't want to talk about it."

Oh, well she'd rather disappointed him with that response. He almost brought out the argument of 'kissing it makes it better, Abfab!', but changed his mind as he thought about his lips actually kissing that bruise. There. In the common room where anyone could see. Erik Cohen might have tossed about ridiculous ideas, but he never followed through with them. NOT if they related to something like snogging. Oy.

She had only disappointed him because it was a hilarious concept that she should have agreed to only to back out as his lips got close. Clearly.

"Not if you washed up afterward and... missed a spot. One gigantic leg of a spot," Erik defended his statement simply to argue, then fell over so that he was lying on the sofa instead of just sitting.

"Oh. Stupefy... some other thing... then stupefy into some shelves. Close range, apparently put me in a coma, who knew?" Erik answered her as if it were nothing, closing his eyes only for a moment. He then blinked at her and thought twice about biting his lip.

"Did you get my letter?"

Awkward.

Avis shook her head. "Because an entire leg is so easy to just completely forget about," she scoffed absently, sighing and leaning back into her chair.

Her brown eyes went a bit wide at hearing of a coma. "Wh. . .it can do that? Well, how long were you out for? And you don't have. . .any permanent damage or anything?" she asked carefully, a bit daunted by hearing what he had to say.

Yet, her eyes went a bit wider even at hearing him say that, in an odd, weird tone. She wondered if he expected any certain reaction out of her, and that of course made her a bit more awkward. "Yeah, I did," she said, pulling the folded paper out of the pocket of her skirt and looking the letter over again.

An entire leg wasn't easy to forget about, she was right. Excuse him for trying to actually come up with a comparison, then! It was better than his first thought of, "Oh wow! That bruise likes like a really big bruise!" Bah. Apparently exhaustion could also affect the brain, which wasn't to Erik's liking at all.

"I don't think I have any permanent damage, but I suppose I'll figure that out later," Erik answered her with a snort of laughter, lazily moving an arm to pat at his stomach. Well, his stomach felt all right. Definitely positive, as he was going to wolf down some rolls later! Sodding pudding.

How long had he been in the coma? Well, he'd not opened his eyes until Sunday afternoon, so... hours. Didn't really seem all that serious to him, but perhaps that was only because it was less than the death he had been expecting.

"We don't have to talk about it or anything, I just... wanted you to know," Erik stated nervously, sitting up slightly and smiling weakly.

"At least none that you didn't already have, anyways. . ." Avis trailed off, snorting, only a little while afterwards inwardly panicking when she thought of how he might thought she meant from being Crucio-ed and all. Which she did NOT mean at ALL.

Okay, so maybe he didn't want to talk about the coma or anything like that. She paled a bit, worried that she'd made him uncomfortable.

And people didn't just tell people that only to say the important thing and leave it at that. No. At least, Avis didn't. Then again, she did have a bit of a different personality from Erik. She only knew that if she were to send a letter saying a secret to someone, it would at least be to get a bit of. . .help, or sympathy, or something from it. "Are you sure? I mean, if you even want to, I'm up for, er, talking about it. Or anything, really," she sighed, biting her lip at him.

Erik rolled his eyes at her comment, though he hadn't thought she meant the crucio he had endured... twice. No, his first thought had been something about brain damage, implying he was stupid or insane or... whatnot. Quite clever really, and he would have been snappish and giddy about it, a strange combination, had he not been so out of it.

It wasn't that Erik didn't want to talk about the coma, he honestly just... couldn't remember much. Possibly because he'd been in a coma. Good guess, if he did say so himself. The information he'd pried from the nurses had mostly been about Troy! He'd never thought to bother listening about his own injuries unless they wanted him to do something.

Erik definitely didn't want sympathy, but perhaps a bit of understanding... which was different, in his mind. He wasn't interested in pity, he simply wanted Avis to be aware of what had happened so some odd aspects of his behaviour could be explained.

"I don't... I don't even know what to say. Bloody hell... he's dead," Erik whispered, holding his hand to his forehead and holding back tears. Why that made him want to cry? He honestly... wasn't sure.

Well Avis would understand, of course! She had to! If there was anyone who would fathom that a Slytherin was a cruel, evil, sick and twisted bastard (well, of course, without being victim to any), it was Avis. She hadn't been surprised, really. She expected a Slytherin to do that. She perhaps would have first suspected Preston Victore, as he was the more popular of the two. But Wes Broderick, that made sense.

Though if you told her a first year had crucio-ed someone, Avis would have believed it.

Avis shook her head, "You don't have to say anything, Erik. Exactly. He's dead. And thank heavens for that. A shame the dementors couldn't get to him first, but. . .there's nothing to say." Bloody git should rot in hell, really. Avis believed he was, too.

Avis stood and walked over to him, sitting next to him, just in case.

Erik, surprisingly, had never been one to assume that all Slytherins were bad news. Even after all that had happened to him, he still figured he could find some who weren't interested in killing him (at least), and some that wouldn't even mind his company. Not because of his bloodline, anyway, though perhaps because of his insanity.

Preston Victore had been arrogant, but he'd never seemed all that violent. Wes, other the other hand, was a man of action. If he was angry, he... used unforgivables. Erik hadn't met anyone else in the castle who'd been faced with such torture, but there had to be those who'd gotten a good deal of pain from the bloke.

One had to be careful. Those who stayed under the radar were incredibly lucky.

"I never thought... I always assumed he'd be there always, watching me and waiting... if he'd gotten one more at me I'd not even be talking to you," Erik muttered, feeling his body start to shake.

Well, perhaps with exhaustion came a bit of emotional instability. He let a few tears fall, not quite knowing what was so upsetting when everything was seemingly over, and grasped lightly at Avis's hand.

If anyone knew about emotional instability, it was Avis Abernathy. Granted, she never had a real reason for it, or a valid one, as Erik did. She was simply. . .an emotional wreck at the wrong times. No, never over being tortured and having her family murdered. She flew off the handle when her friend let out a groan as she took her wand out of her bra, or a seventh year bloke looked at her funny. She acted as if her world would end over the stupid things. It was a bit grounding to see someone with actual, real problems and hardships.

It really put it into perspective how childish, immature, and mardy she was, and how she really did have to grow the hell up.

Perhaps Erik would help her do just that.

She pouted sympathetically, knowing he shouldn't be crying, or even be upset over it. She knew if the same had happened to her, she'd be crying tears of happiness, really. Avis moved closer and let out an empathetic sound, wrapping her arms around him even tighter.

It was all she could do, she felt.

Erik had never really noticed Avis's emotional instability, at least not really. He had originally thought her to be mental when she yelled at him for trying to be friends with her, but then he'd found her just a little grumpy. That he actually took to be teenage hormones, the average attitude of a girl toward him. If she was emotionally unstable, however, Erik would embrace her as a kindred spirit.

He had never cared about people complaining over trivial matters. Even he still complained about lengthy assignments and other nonsense, and he was the one who'd gone through such tragedy! It was normal human behavior, he wasn't about to get angry with someone over that.

"I'd appreciate it if you'd not tell anyone about this. Gryffindor blokes aren't supposed to cry," he muttered, laughing a little through his tears. He did accept her hug gratefully, resting his head on her shoulder a little.

He was able to let go now. Apparently that meant more than he'd realised.

It probably was her teenage hormones making her grumpy on a regular basis. She knew she'd used the same excuse herself; just seemed like a copout, really.

Avis shook her head, laughing sadly, hugging him back. "It's okay. I've seen Gryffindor guys cry before," she laughed sadly, trying to reassure him. Well, she had seen one cry before, and now Erik. Two wasn't a big number, was it? And they had been for valid reasons, at any rate in both cases.

"I won't tell anyone. Just don't tell anyone I'm going around hugging you. . ." She jokingly whispered, trying to ease the seriousness of the situation, "Ben won't be too happy."

She only partly hoped Erik wouldn't actually tell anyone. Seemed she was breaking all her rules this week. Ah well. Under times of stress, someone was bound to do that, right?
