He looked thoughtful at this. That was true. It was lucky that people hadn't heard about his little encounter with Jackie. He wouldn't hear the end if it it people had. "It's a good thing you haven't told anyone or else..." He trailed off, turning slightly to glance out the window. His words were an odd mix of a threat and a thank you and it was close to impossible to determine which one he intended. Maybe both. That seemed like the easiest solution

"People already think it's true," he pointed out. "You're really not going to make things much worse by ignoring him." He supposed it was somewhat admirable of her to stick by him, all things considered, though. "And all of this will pass," he added. "Everyone will forget about it soon enough and I really don't think there'll be any lasting damage." There had been plenty said about him in the past and while he had been perfectly humiliated at the time, he had begun to understand that people really didn't care as much as he had thought.

He looked surprised by her sudden bout of worry. He hadn't actually meant to upset her so he wasn't really sure what she was getting all worked up again. So he said she loved him. "We keep saying how different we are from each other... and you do not want to become emotionally invested in any relationship while I don't want to have a purely physical one.
