Dayquill is actually a placebo. No I'm serious, my doctor told me it really just makes your throat numb a nd that's it. The drowsiness, my friend, is all in your mind.

Hmm... Well contrary to what Michelle's doctor said. Dayquil does contain the following drugs... 325 mg of Acetaminophen, which acts just like aspirin as a pain reliever and fever reducer and is the main active ingredient in Tylenol. 15mg of Dextromethorphan hydrobromide, which acts as a cough suppressant. In fact it is the over the counter version of Codeine, without the harmful addictive effects. Some doctors do believe that cough suppressants in general are simply placebos but that matter is still highly debatable. Finally it contains 30 mg of Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride which is a nasal decongestant. It's over the counter name in the US is Sudafed. You can see how they got the name. The only thing DayQuil doesn't have are antihistamines which combats sneezing and runny nose. They don't have this because Antihistamines can cauase drowziness. So you'll only find that in NyQuil. Now some of the doses are a little smaller like the Extra Strength Tylenol for example does give you 500 mg of acetaminophen while the DayQuil only gives ( ... )
