My stepfather sent me an article from a Muggle paper today. Very good. I'm still smiling. Three murders, all committed within a five minute period, all at different ends of London. Same fingerprints at each scene. Obviously, the killer Apparated, but they were stabbed to death and from what the article says, I don't believe any other magic was used ( Read more... )

I actually used to work with the Department of Law Enforcement, so I know for a fact that the Ministry has a department for this sort of thing. They're actually supposed to catch this kind of story before it makes Muggle news, but if everyone does their job right, they'll probably have that story wrapped up before any more Muggles get hurt.

Usual protocol is to have the Muggle newspaper publish an article the next day saying something like; "Oh, it turns out they found more fingerprints," or something like that. Sorry to disappoint you, but I saw a couple cases like these when I was in the Ministry.

Oh. Trust the Ministry to suck the joy out of everything.

You've robbed me of one point of interest, so supply me with another. Go on. The most interesting case you saw while working at the Ministry, before I die of ennui.

Uh, well. We dealt with a couple vampires who were using Muggle lore to keep their food supply up. That and a few wizards who... No, I guess that one was pretty boring.

There was this one couple. A pair of blood wizards that lived up in the country. Every year they'd sacrifice a couple of townfolk so they could keep their spells from killing them. Usually it'd be some travelers, or people in jail, people no one would miss. They were... you know the type; they think they're doing the right thing, since their magic helps the town prosper or whatever. Took us a while to track down because the other wizards living there were actually keeping the news from getting too far. It was probably one of our largest busts when I was at the Ministry.

Oh, how innovative. What kind of blood magic were they practising? I've done a little research into the area.

He sent it to you? Do you collect these sorts of articles?

Collect and study, yes.

Isn't it? I like a killer who knows what he or she wants.

I wonder why the person did it.

You've got to laugh, haven't you? Or else you'll just get frustrated at people's sheer inability to reason.

There...weren't any in Westminster, were there?

No. [He's rolling his eyes. His handwriting strives to convey that, though it doesn't quite succeed.] You'd have been informed, most likely.

(ooc: So, I'm thinking Sherlock's crush on classical music means he knows who Soul's brother is? And in canon he usually deduces peoples' family relationships immediately based on resemblance. Especially ear shape, weirdly enough. Is it okay if he knows all that?)

No harm in checking. [He sees that eye rolling you're doing there, even if he can't physically.] If it's Muggle police dealing with it, then it'd be ages before I got word.

[ooc: Sure thing :3 Soul will be so freaked out.]

It'll have been taken over by the Ministry by now, regrettably. Anyway, they'd have more of a feature on it if it were anyone well-known.
