There's some law that kids can't be outside if the temperature is higher or lower than a set temp (I think 90+ or 45-). I moved from TX to NC for 8th grade and where I went to school (the High Point area of NC), schools were closed if it got about 90 degrees. The reason was that the school did not have central air (or even window units) and not all of the classrooms had windows. I still agree with you that it's insane to cancel after school sports for the heat!

I remember the under 45 rule in the Raleigh area too. We thought that was crazy too. Kids up here go outside probably unless its in single digits. I guess we are just wimpy when it comes to heat.

Oh man! 90 is hot but not worth cancelling activities over....says the girl in Vegas who just spent the entire day outside in 102 degree weather with two kids :)

You are a stronger woman than me. We'd be inside if it was 102. I can do the 90's alright....but any higher I'm wimpy!

You know, they've been doing the same here in MD. I found it so odd.

Yeah, we're in the land of no AC too, and while it's really nice 95% of the year, we sure do have a few uncomfortable days. Cancelling sports when it's over 90 seems a *bit* over the top!

Our kids are wimps when it comes to heat...but I have to give them credit in the cold weather - they are out there unless its in the sub-zeros for the most part!
