A few things wrong here:

"This could be from the time Shawn's mother and father separated."

If I'm not mistaken they didn't separate at all until after Shawn was in high school. I mean, I could be mistaken, but they were married all through his childhood, they just had a hard time what with Henry's job and all.

At this point I don't really expect it to be anyone we know. I expect it to be someone new but with a very huge reason for doing this- something probably related to the Spencer family/SBPD.

Even though I think it'd be pretty awesome if it was Woody :D

I've heard these theories before. I mean, you never know. It is ironic that Yin comes when his mom comes back into town, and when Yang strikes she's conveniently far away on business. But as many dark things as there are that Psych has done in the past, I dunno if they would go *that* far.

P.S.: now that I think about it would be kind of cool for Psych to start out being this silly, fun comedy that doesn't take itself to seriously and it up as a dark and deep murder mystery. Shows usually aren't that deep, but it would be different.

One thing though, wasn't it established that Yin had to have help because she couldn't do everything in the room at the drive-in (sorry, don't know what to call it!) and then get down there and tie up Maddie all by herself?

Gonna use 1 reply to both comments ;)

Show seems to be flexible with the separation time, truthfully, I'm not sure when they broke up. All the 'young' Shawn times are just with Henry. This leads me to believe that even if she still lived there the relationship wasn't the strongest.
Someone new is totally likely, but I agree it has to be someone linked to Henry's past or the SBPD.
I also agree that if Psych went that dark it would be surprising and pretty darn amazing.
Part of what made me think it was his mom was the detail at the Drive-in. If Yang needed help, Maddie could have taped her own mouth, put the sign on, set up the bomb, even tied her own hands. She is the one who indicated where Yang was. What if it was because Yang gave her the signal that she had returned to the other car.

And even though I'd love it to be Woody and have him be all BAMF!serial killer, I'd miss him as the fun M.E.

There was an episode where it showed Shawn's mom in flashbacks. I think it was Shawn (and Gus) of the Dead. Other times they'll mention his mother a lot so I get the impression they were still married.

What would also make the Maddie theory make sense is that I find it odd that someone can just strap someone to a bomb and hold them hostage in the middle of a drive-in lot with no body noticing!

YES!!! I am not crazy! Thank you!
All these things point to Mom and I had forgotten about the Abigail tidbit, thank you for pointing that out.
But it was that comment, her "it felt like her life began again" that's what really sold it to me. I could not find that statement anywhere and was wondering if I dreamt it.

mr yin is not shawn's mother, mr yin has man hands, a man voice and according to IMDB and the forum on the usa network he will be played by a man.

But I have few doubts that you are correct, I'm just having fun speculating

Bah! IMDB plays with the fan's minds. It wouldn't be the first time a show did careful retelling of history and re-editing.

I'm also betting on Woody. My reasoning is one that has worked when trying to solve numerous 70s and 80s tv mysteries: the actor playing Woody is too famous for the role. Whenever you get a known actor introduced in what seems like a bit part, I find that highly suspicious.

That said, I wonder why Shawn's mother wouldn't be more forthcoming if she knew anything, given that she was almost murdered.

Welcome to the I love Woody/Kurt Fuller fan club! tee hee
I love that he still plays the part of the ME even, as you mention, he's much more famous than when he first took the part.
I think it would be incredible for it to be that character. He would have been able to manipulate evidence for years!
I totally agree with your assessment of Shawn's mother about the crime. She's some sort of super shrink, wouldn't her insight be most useful?

This is intriguing! But I think it would completely destroy Shawn if it turned out his mother was a serial killer. =/

Yes, it would be devasting to both Shawn and Henry. There are just so many questions about Mom.

Well, I was just thinking about how, for so long, Shawn really idolized his mom. Like, he felt like her protector for all those years where he thought it was Henry who left her instead of the other way around. I just can't imagine what would happen to Shawn if he realized the one person he'd chosen to be loyal to was a serial killer or something cuz even when he found out she'd left Henry instead of the other way around, he was still sympathetic toward her, he forgave her, etc. I think when it comes to family, Shawn keeps his feelings hidden most of the time, but really, he's pretty soft and squishy inside. Something like this would just break him! :(

Oh, I absolutely agree. If his mother was the killer it would destroy Shawn. IMO it would destroy the show; it's not that dark and Shawn wouldn't recover. However, for speculation purposes, she's a suspect, to me.
