You have an excellent point about Fi. I watched the show as it initially aired and when the comment about Fi's IRA conncection came up, that did put me off a bit. Here in the U.S., we're farther removed from situation so don't feel it as strongly. That's not meant as an excuse, but a partial explanation. IIRC, Fi's background was mentioned early on to introduce her character, but doesn't really get mentioned much (if at all) after that so the IRA aspect isn't really played up that much.
Still, I really wish they had picked a different background for her. Made her a government operative just like Michael Westin is/was. It would have been very easy.
What I would like to see is a character development scene with Fi where she's comparing her new life helping people with her old life and expressing regret over her prior actions.
