I haven't seen it yet, but maybe because I only keep an eye here on LJ on the main comm.

I think age doesn't matter. I know some cool 13-year-olds and some freaking immature 20-somewhat-year-olds. So... I really don't care how old the fans are. Maybe a younger fan shouldn't watch hardcore porn but in the end, that's their decision.

At first I wondered if you really meant age, because I've seen much more hatred against "newer" members, like the ones who joined after the dub came out, etc. But maybe that's just the old elitists wank.

The 'newer' fans thing does tie in to it; it is the 'onslaught' of 'new, younger fans' that seems to be a lot of people's problem *~*.

I've seen it, certainly. Both directed towards younger fans and mostly newer fans (which aren't necessarily younger). But it disgusts me a lot. If anything, I've seen that younger or newer fans are more enthusiastic and less judgmental than older, battered fans who create 90% of wank these days. Newer fans bring a (much needed) fresh air to the fandom. And many of the flaws usually given to younger fans can be found as well in older fans, and in bigger amounts.

As you say, it's not a matter of age but one of maturity.

I'm probably gonna get a lot of hate for this, but I know I'm guilty of this in particular. I'll use an example to clarify things though ( ... )

"It's not like I inherently hate younger members of the fandom. I've met people who are like 13, 14, and even people who got into the series at like 11 or 12."
Forgot to add that THOSE people I've met were actually really cool. Any time a younger, immature fan "screws up", I only ever hear about it after it spreads like wild fire. But again, I never really know how old those people are, even if a lot of them seem young.

Maturity, not age, is the problem.

Sweet caramel corn, this. So much.

What I don't understand is the hate for newer fans who got into Hetalia via the dubs. Seriously, there are people out there acting like 'your not a true fan of Hetalia' because they preferred to watch the dubs. Not that there's anything wrong with Japanese...but why get so upset if someone watches dub instead of subs? (Sorry if I'm not making sense here...bit of a tongue twister. v_v)

With most anime, I ask myself this same question. It honestly doesn't matter to me, plus you could always watch both.

Hetalia however is a different story. Long story short, the English dub deviates from the original quite a bit. Some people don't like the changes that were made, nor the American-style humor used in the dialogue. Contrary to popular belief, people are allowed to dislike the English dub, or just certain parts of the English dub, and no, not everyone who dislikes it is a neurotic, hyper-sensitive, butthurt fantard.

Not that I'm saying you said that, but that's how fans of Hetalia's English dub make me feel sometimes ^^;;

regardless dub-haters don't have to watch the English dub, and some people can just watch both but still have their own preferences. If people like the English dub, that's great! If not, that's just as great :)

Ah...I see where you're coming from. There are some things in the dub which are like '...Ooooh snap...did he just - oh my... :U'.

I think one thing that was so shocking for older fans about the dub (ignoring the type of humor added to it for the moment) was how little younger fans cared that Funimation deviated from the original script.

We (as in the anime fanbase in America) have been fighting against the 'Americanization' of anime for so long and for the most part it seemed like we wouldn't have to worry about the bad old days of hack-jobs like Cardcaptors and One Piece...and then Hetalia comes out and so many people were not only ok with the changes, but preferred it...it's just like what did we just spend the past 20 years fighting for, you know what I mean? It was just really shocking.

I suppose I'm a young fan, and I'm not quite sure if I should be posting here.

My friends got me into Hetalia, and I thought it was funny, and I liked it. This was before I knew what the difference between "fandom", "cannon", and "fanon" was. I liked the anime because it made me laugh and got me into history more.

I guess I can understand some of the older fandom's annoyance at the younger fandom's noob tendencies, but weren't we all young sometime? I always try to be as mature as possible, but it doesn't mean I'm not going to goof off with my friends in private.

A lot of the younger fandom screws up, but usually they try to fix their mistakes. And even if the younger fans are stereotyped as being disrespectful, there are also older fans that are also disrespectful.

I just think that hate towards the younger fandom is a bit close-minded, especially without a reason. Maybe you don't like a few fans who are under 17, but that doesn't give anyone a reason to hate the whole younger fandom.
