I'm probably gonna get a lot of hate for this, but I know I'm guilty of this in particular. I'll use an example to clarify things though.
It's not like I inherently hate younger members of the fandom. I've met people who are like 13, 14, and even people who got into the series at like 11 or 12. (and by met I mean just talked to online, because I haven't been to a convention since 2005 since I've just been that dirt poor)
However, I myself have done some stupid, stupid things when I was around that age- even as old as 17! (nothing harmful, but stuff you only see the "uber-young weeaboo crowd" do. Drawing hotter versions of myself with my favorite bishounen, using the word "hate" for anime characters I didn't like...y'know, stuff like that.)
At 17 though, stuff like that simply doesn't fly anymore. I bet if half the fandom knew me back then, (I'm 22 now) everyone here would probably wonder if I was 12-15. My Maturity level just wasn't very high.
Plus there's all the desu-desu offensive MS paint OC's that some of the younger members seem to do, but again, it shouldn't be about age, it should be about maturity, and I'm sorry if I've ever generalized people like that. (Which I know I have. and I'm sorry)
I guess it's just easier to say "omg what are you 12??" or "ugh 13 year old weeaboos" or "15 year old freshmen whyyyy" than, like... "stupid non-mature fans"
Ugh. I don't know. I may be 22, but I'm still learning how to be mature or whatever :| In fact I pretty much learn something new about my own thoughts or behavior every single day.

Forgot to add that THOSE people I've met were actually really cool. Any time a younger, immature fan "screws up", I only ever hear about it after it spreads like wild fire. But again, I never really know how old those people are, even if a lot of them seem young.
