lack of pairing communities

Feb 17, 2011 13:39

HEY GUYS

So I'm sure you're all aware of this list of Hetalia comms and that Hetalia fandom on LJ has comms for pretty much every pairing you can think of.

SO WHY ARE THERE NO COMMS FOR THESE PAIRINGS? )

general: fandom, general: pairings

The problem with pairing communities is that unless it's something that's widely shipped (USUK, Gerita, FrUK), they tend to die quickly. There just aren't enough fanworks for say, America/Vietnam (which is my favorite het America ship, by the way). I've personally thought of opening a community for Japan pairings in general, but I don't know if anyone else would be interested in it or not.

I love all of those pairings you listed. ♥

Hmm... I see what you mean.
But why don't you create a new comm?

I think many people don't want to create a new community because they're worried it'll die after a few weeks. DA clubs are much more active, and pixiv tags aren't bound to groups (and Japanese fans seem to be a bit more active than international fans; at least regarding fanarts).

what is the point of creating a comm of a pair that you like but maybe not as much? if I were to choose I'd only create a comm for usuk (even if it wasnt that popular) but there's one already so I dont have to worry about it

also as gohstar said comms for pairs that arent that popular arent given much attention but if the pair is your main interest that shouldnt really matter to you

maybe you can create a comm for any of those pairs if you like them so much? ^^U

Not to make anyone feel bad, but to me Ametica/Vietnam has to be one of the most brow-raising pairings to me. The Vietnam War is widely considered where America's reputation with it's own people deteriorated. You had soldiers coming home expecting a hero's welcome and instead get spit on. This happened to one of my Uncles and this has always left him so sad. You have to be concious about how people who have grandparents or such might react to such a pairing. It's especially disheartening when you see fans pair the two while just waving off the history or just "oh it's over now, I can pair them all I want :D". Just... no. This war tore America apart overseas and at home. The scars are still there so just try to be very careful with a pair like this.

Not to mention he brutality of the war. For me it's like a Germany/Israel comm or a France/Algeria one or a Pakistan/India one.

All wars are brutal.

Well, I think Japan/Korea or Japan/China would fall under the same category but still, it's not too unpopular :/

No one's stopping you from making your own comms to share with like-minded fans. It's not like it's set.

America/Vietnam = The Quiet American. <-- this was my Hetalia in high school. SIIIIIIIGH I'm lame.
