lack of pairing communities

HEY GUYS

So I'm sure you're all aware of this list of Hetalia comms and that Hetalia fandom on LJ has comms for pretty much every pairing you can think of.

SO WHY ARE THERE NO COMMS FOR THESE PAIRINGS? )

Not to make anyone feel bad, but to me Ametica/Vietnam has to be one of the most brow-raising pairings to me. The Vietnam War is widely considered where America's reputation with it's own people deteriorated. You had soldiers coming home expecting a hero's welcome and instead get spit on. This happened to one of my Uncles and this has always left him so sad. You have to be concious about how people who have grandparents or such might react to such a pairing. It's especially disheartening when you see fans pair the two while just waving off the history or just "oh it's over now, I can pair them all I want :D". Just... no. This war tore America apart overseas and at home. The scars are still there so just try to be very careful with a pair like this.

Not to mention he brutality of the war. For me it's like a Germany/Israel comm or a France/Algeria one or a Pakistan/India one.

All wars are brutal.

Well, I think Japan/Korea or Japan/China would fall under the same category but still, it's not too unpopular :/

Maybe western fandom is not so aware about those ountries' history as we know about America's?

Hmm, maybe. I think it's also popular in Japan, though.

Well, how about as an American who I'm pretty sure knows what went on in Vietnam and how jacked up everything was, we should at least be respectful for the past. Sometimes I think this fandom doesn't really think beyond "omg gorgeous countries let's pair them regardless of their little war". There might be certain Japanese fans cool with that sort of thing, but I just think it's all a matter of like I said, respecting the past and considering the feelings of others. And I'm sorry, but if you know every that happened in the Vietnam War and you know of someone who became broken over it, wouldn't you feel deeply uncomfortable with a pairing like this?

Oh, please don't misunderstand me, I'm more than uncomfortable with it. My post wasn't supposed to sound like "omg look, Japan can write this so why can't we?" - actually, it was supposed to prove the opposite (I have to admit, it didn't sound like that at all).
I really don't like any of the pairings that have a brutal history (for example, I couldn't really get fond of Germany/Poland either, not to mention Japan/mentioned above or America/Vietnam).

Oh it's okay, I guess I did get a little carried away. Thank you for understanding though :)

This fandom ships pretty much everything though, including other pairings that at first glance seem pretty offensive based on their history alone. (China/Japan, for example.) What makes America/Vietnam so different it shouldn't be supported by those who do like it? The fact that it's het? :/

Are you being serious? I don't like het? I gave up that "het is ew" a long time ago. How about, I actually know people whose lives were forever messed up after that particular war? I'm sorry for my burst of anger, but please do me the favor of not jumping to conclusions. I'm more sensitive about this war, because I know how it feels to look at someone and wonder about the soft young man who became a bitter veteran who thinks his efforts were in vain. It's something personal other people might feel.

As a Chinese person, I am actually deeply offended by JapanxChina. The things the Japanese have done are atrocious, made worse by the fact they never truly apologized, and there is a reason China suffered the most civilian deaths during WWII. But I'm not going to ask others not to ship it. I'll just scroll on by.

How the fuck is that any different from fairly popular pairings like Russia/Baltics, Prussia/Poland, Turkey/Greece etc?

This. I have Uncle who was also involved in the war, and he's still so effected by it emotionally that he's been known to actually kick people out of his house when he thought they were saying something about it. Plus, one of my gym teachers in highschool still had/has flashbacks because of this war.

Add in the fact that the Vietnam war was known for being particularly brutal and just...Personally I do consider it to be fairly offensive to *both* countries, and mildly horrified when I hear someone call that war - or any war at all honesty - 'Just sexual tension'.

So, as the anon above said - if you were to make a comm for a pairing[s] like this, it would probably be best to be very careful about it.
