Mod post

There's been an influx of new people in the community - or at least some of the quieter people have started posting - so I think it's time for a reminder about community rules.

The rules can be found in the community's profile, both in Filipino and English, but they're under the cut as well for easier access. )

Hullo there!

Just a short question: does this mean that the preview and the summary (for fanfiction) have been the same thing this whole time? If so, then I apologize for not following this rule. I was completely unaware, and it won't happen gain.

Yes - it's the same. Don't worry about not having followed it before; it's just that some people post really long excerpts and other people would prefer not to scroll through a lot of text on their friends' page.

Would that mean that small excerpts of, say, a paragraph or two, are acceptable? It gives the writer more opportunity to show readers exactly what they're getting into.

I would suggest limiting it to one (short) paragraph, if you really want to put a preview.

I don't have a user tag, who can I ask to make me one? It's: micogarz - author & micogarz - artist ^^

Your tags have been created :) They're "author - micogarz" and "artist - micogarz".

Why not just call it "Summary" instead of "Preview," or use "Preview" when specifically posting fanart? The wording is misleading for fanfictions. The assignment of the field is using two different words to mean the same thing for both forms of fanwork, and it's confusing.

"Buod" also means "summary," as far as I know.

The assignment of the field is using two different words to mean the same thing for both forms of fanwork

That's why the original mod used a "/" because she intended that the other members of the community would use what would be appropriate for what they were posting - buod (or summary) for fanfiction and a preview for fanart.

So basically if posting a fanfic, use "Buod" (as in, "summary") and leave out any actual previews (as in, "sneak-peek" or "snippet") of that fanfic? And if posting a fanart, use "Preview" as opposed to "Buod" (it makes more sense when talking about fanart, btw) and in that field we stick a teaser cropped image of the fanwork in place?

I'm honestly trying not to be difficult here, but the wording of that rule about the "Buod/Preview" is weird because I've always taken that to mean that authors ought to include a small preview after posting the actual summary [buod] of their fanfic. And it looks like a common misunderstanding, since many fanfics have been posted with both a summary and a preview! I think it's just the use of that slash between buod and preview that's been throwing me off all this time. Something obviously didn't connect in my brain O_o

Yes - if it's a fanfic, use "buod" and if it's a fanart, use "preview."

The slash is most commonly used as the word substitute for "or" which indicates a choice (often mutually exclusive) is present.
I hope that helped :)
