Heeyikes :P While I am loving your style, I'm still torn about this whole issue. It's like our Third World discrimination is being slapped in our faces :P
Haha, in hindsight you're right, it does send that message D: HK has the right to scream though, they lost quite a lot, overseas even. For me, that's guilt on Piri's face, and that's why she's crying too. Kinda like when somebody asks you to protect something and you fail, horribly. I think one'll get mad at whoever failed them, whatever their status might be.
Okay, I think I just confused myself. Argh @ explaining art, it should be open to interpretation, yes? :D
Remember that thing about people being the nation's heart or something? That's sad, because Hong Kong trusted the Philippines with his people and we failed. It's like a guy giving his heart to a girl and the girl crushes it.
Oh ouch, what is that pain in my heart? GUILT.
*SOBS* HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO TAKE MY VACATIONS WITH STOP OVERS IN HK WITHOUT FREAKING MYSELF OUT DDDD8
Really? I didn't know that bit about people being the heart of a nation. (Although now that you've said it, it makes perfect sense. To me, that is :D). Well if that's the case, then Piri broke HK's heart. Into pieces. Which may be irreparable.
Yes, it is GUILT. We Filipinos have a lot of it. :D
At least you can still visit HK! They can't visit us! (idk why anybody would want to after that, D:)
That negative effect is brilliant--really brought the emotion out. The "I'm Sorry" bit would make more sense if it were at the bottom, but I get it that you would have to sacrifice symmetry. Overall, it's a very provoking work. Didn't think I'd ever see fanart with so much pow!, you know?
YAY! Thank you for the very nice comment~ Yes, the negative effect. I had problems with the scanning as I drew it on a notebook, but wneh I inverted colors, it was like, WOAH. Another trick added to my meager PS skills XD
And about the "I'm sorry", it is about symmetry. But a friend commented "Who's saying sorry?" when she saw it, and it kinda got me thinking. Very philosophically. So again, it's open to interpretation, who's saying sorry to whom. :D
Seriously. ONE MAN isn't ONE NATION. OH HONG KONG. PHILIPPINES LOVES YOU. YOU KNOW SHE DOES D8 If we didn't care, would we send THAT many OFWs to HK? I think not. I hope Hong Kong forgives us. It would be the best for both countries.
I'm scared for the OFWs. I'd like to think they'd be all right, but not everybody is forgiving at times like this. My heart goes out to them as it goes out to the HongKong nationals. Yes, I hope forgiveness happens. With thorough investigation and justice too, however idealisic that may seem.
The negative effect is perfect for the emotions :) I love how you drew their expressions, too. Especially Hong Kong's. I've never seen him angry before.
But I am a little lost...why can't Hong Kong visit us? D:
Thank you! Yep, yep, these are all raw, unchecked, negative emotions :D I was worried he might be OOC, cause he doesn't really show much expression, right?
The Philippines is "blacklisted", their government banned all travel to the PH, I think.
Yes- "we" could've done better. (in quotations because I don't like generalizing, sorry). Hong Kong authorities have all rights to get mad at ours, actually, so I'm not blaming them. Hope this gets resolved soon though, with the two nations making up in the (near) future. It takes time to heal wounds, though.
And the reverse negative-positive space style was perfect for this. Good job on both the sketches and the tension!
XDD It's fine, I don't like it, either. But I was going for our "shared national identity", that feeling of 'kapwa', so I used 'we'. Uh, yeah, there I go with the jargon again.
Yeah, we hope for the same thing. Some cuts run very deep, and I think this would leave scars, but I still hope for the best.
Yes. So it's sad- because as you guys have already discussed *points to earlier replies*, we really don't know who to believe anymore. As for the jargon, 'tis fine. We could use to learn to be a little more patriotic by using our own language. Your concept made so much sense
( ... )
I agree with what you say about generalizations. It's sad that they treat an isolated case this way. Really tragic for both parties, I must say. That labeling with CNN was bull. But I don't believe everybody in the US thinks we're really that dangerous of a country. Like them, we may be generalizing CNN's writers' points-of-view. We can't help it if that's what they think; but we can show them that this will not last forever. We will learn from this and become better.
LOL tl;dr XDDD And yeah, that's a scar on HK's face :D I thought nobody noticed ;D

Why, did something happen that made the Philippines "blacklisted?"
