As soon as Matthew heard the news, he had to stop himself from collapsing and succumbing to utter despair. He leaned against the wall unable to move or make a sound.
When his brother, Alfred did not return to class after lunch, Matthew just thought that Alfred was being, well Alfred, and skipping class again. So when the school principal, who was nicknamed by the student body as "Grandpa Rome", came to the classroom and called him out of class, he had no idea what to expect. But he certainly did not expect that kind of news, not in a million years. People go on in their lives to never get the news Matthew just received.
"I'm sorry, but Alfred is in the hospital right now in critical condition."
His brother couldn't be in the hospital. Alfred doesn't go to the hospital unless he accidentally sent someone there himself

Matthew wasn't sure how long he stood there. To him it was as if time had come to a complete halt. His entire life, Alfred was there. Sure he gotten into trouble more occasions then he would have liked due to Alfred, but he was still his brother

Hee, this passerby!anon is quite excited that someone is filling this request! I, too am a closet enthusiast for well-written amnesia fics and you're off to a great start~ ♥
God if Matthew was this angsty (oh but baby brother became strooong~ :D) I can only imagine Arthur's reaction. Ha, I can imagine Arthur and Alfred going through so much tension and so many misunderstandings before they got together and then this happens.
Aww, then I can probably imagine Alfred wondering how the hell he got together with Arthur since I have no doubt that Alfred will see the tsun long before the dere shows itself. God am I waiting for the aaaangst on both sides. ;3
