Matthew ran as fast as he could for all twenty blocks to Hetalia Medical Center. Most of the time Gilbert was in front of him telling him to pick up the pace as he lagged behind trying to catch his breath. Matthew was in no way considered out of shape as someone who plays hockey on a regular basis, he was considered quite fit, but Gilbert's running pace was ridiculously fast.
When Matthew reached the hospital he was deadbeat. If it wasn't for Gilbert he might have collapsed from exhaustion.
"Don't give up now Williams!" Gilbert declared, preventing him from falling and flinging Matthews left arm over his shoulder. Matthew just nodded meekly as the two entered the hospital.
"H-hello," Matthew managed to say to the nurse behind the desk. His throat was dry from the running. He definitely needed to go buy himself a bottle of water after seeing his brother.
"Are you alright sir?" the nurse asked.
"He's fine, just out of breath. We're actually here for his brother, Alfred F. Jones," Gilbert said, filling in the nurse. It was apparent to him that Matthew was exhausted from their what he thought was a light jog.
"I'll check up about him right now," the nurse smiled. The two boys watched her get up from her seat and walked over to the filing cabinet behind her and went through the papers.
Matthew was getting more and more anxious as each second went by. If he could just see Alfred, and see that he's ok and that he'll pull through, that would put his mind would be put to ease.
"Alfred is strong, so don't you worry," Gilbert said. "He'll pull through after all he is a hero."
"He is," Matthew smiled. He came this far; there is no way Matthew could give up now. After all, Alfred would never give up on him. Matthew clenched his fists. Still, this wouldn't completely stop the worry.
"I'm sorry for the delay," the nurse said to the boys. "I'm sorry to say this, but right now doctors aren't letting anyone see Mr. Jones."
"When can I?" Matthew asked with urgency behind his voice. He just needed to know if his brother was all right and see it for himself.
"In a few hours, if you want, you can wait in the waiting room and as soon as the doctors say it's ok to see your brother, I will let you know."
"Please do," Matthew replied. "And thanks for your help."
"C'mon, let's go sit now," Gilbert said. "I mean I know I'm awesomely strong, but you're putting my shoulder to sleep."
"Ah. Sorry. I think I can walk on my own now," Matthew apologized.
"You sure?" Gilbert asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure," Matthew replied. Gilbert loosened his grip on Matthew, making sure he wouldn't fall after letting go. When Matthew regained his sense of balance with Gilbert by his side, they made their way to the waiting room.
The first thing Matthew did when he reached the waiting room was plop down on one of the coaches. Gilbert on the other hand went straight to the vending machines and bought some snacks. When he made his way back over to Matthew he handed him a bottle of water.
"I thought you might want this," Gilbert offered.
"Thanks," Matthew replied, taking the bottle from the Prussian.
"And you can have some of these snacks too. I have a feeling this is gonna be a long few hours," Gilbert said. And that statement couldn't have been anymore right.
