OP would like to see the characters as performers in a circus. Op would prefer it to be serious, rather than lulzy!crack if possilbe; maybe they are forced to perform and are kept under the control of a demented ringmaster and are planning to revolt?
OP is leaving the basic plot and flow up to Author-Anons; I know you all can do it! :)
Bonus 1: The Ringmaster is someone you wouldn't expect (like Canada, or Latvia, or something; but remember, serious).
Bonus 2: Characters have special labels (N/S Italy as the Siam. Twins, Germany as the strong man, etc).

Just figured I’d mention first, the rest of the fill will not be so slow, since everyone will actually be interacting. I plan to have the main storyline focus on Ivan and Alfred, with several connecting “side stories” revolving around other members of the circus~
Ever since he was a young child, Ivan had always liked animals. He loved to bury his hands in the softness of their fur, admired the small, lithe frames of domestic cats, held his hand out for the warm, wet touch of flat tongues the size of his palms his dogs were never shy of sharing with him. They were friends far more worthy than any human, boundless in their loyalty and unequal in their ability to love even the most heartless of people.
They gave him company when he was friendless and alone, rested their heads on his lap, his shoulders, his knees, legs, stomach, anywhere they could manage while he sat in the darkness of his room, their combined breathing, panting, and rumbling purrs almost enough to block out the sound of his parents screaming at each other. They never

Afterward, he’d begun to perfect the art of animal taming, starting with his own pets. He’d begun with his dogs, teaching them all the common, ‘classic’ tricks he could think of. It was a relatively easy practice, the only tools necessary being treats, a firm voice and patience. When he could think of nothing else, he began to make up tricks of his own, draw from more unique sources, teach them skills from movies, books and anything else he could get his hands on. It got to the point where all he needed to do was gesture with his hands.
So he moved on to teaching his cat.
There was no real danger in training domestic animals, despite what they were capable of. But if Ivan looked hard enough at his pets’ large teeth and sturdy forms, tried to imagine what they would be like outside of their subservience, wild and without a master, he could almost trick himself into believing there was. It didn’t equate to the same, first spark of excitement he had felt on that rainy day, but it was close, and he made due.
OP STILL LOVES YOU!

Lulz XD; OP didn't realize there was a second part coming. My thoughts on this section mirror that of the comment above, your descriptions being my favorite part so far. <3

“Alfred.” France is smiling again, in that ‘oh I give up’ way that doesn’t mean that he actually gave up at all. He’s always been sly like that.
“It’s America.”
“You must remember that we use our names here.” He doesn’t move from where he stands, the light from the stage only an inch away from his toe. “Otherwise it’ll be troublesome when he hears it.”
He can’t deny that because the last time someone had slipped up, it hadn’t been pretty at all. But he is America; no way he was just going to give that up
